![]() As economic recession continues to hit the economy and inflict suffering on many Nigerians, there is a need to keep your debit card or credit card against any damage that may result from moist, heat or physical pressure. Apart from the financial cost attached to getting your bank to issue another credit or debit card to you, there are also the inconveniences you will face in of not being able to make use of the payment card until a new one is issued by your bank. This means that such customers will not be able to make payments via the Point of Sale terminals and online transactions. This is because such transactions require payment card details. Similarly, withdrawals, transfers and deposits via the Automated Teller Machines will be put on hold up until a new payment card is made available by the bank. The time it takes for a new payment card to be made ready differs from one bank to another. Despite their tight schedules, busy customers will still need to create time to go to the nearest bank branch to apply for a new payment card. Erica Roth of www.livestrong.com offers useful tips on the nature of payment cards and how bank customers can protect them against damage. Nature of payment card The black strip on the back of your credit or debit card is magnetised and stores information about your . When the strip is swiped, the merchant accesses your private information so you can make your purchase. If the magnetic strip is physically altered or demagnetised, the “swipe and buy” process cannot be completed. Keeping your card away from items that will damage the card can help protect the strip. Discarding your old cards properly minimises the risk of thieves extracting the information embedded in your card’s magnetic strip. A report by livestrong.com offers the following steps in order to take good care of your payment card Step 1: Store your credit card in your wallet or a credit cardholder instead of loose in your purse or pocket. Magnetics of any kind, such as the clasp on your wallet or pocketbook, your refrigerator and other areas of your home can erase the secure information about your that is encoded on the magnetic strip. Keys in your pocket can also scratch the strip and lead to difficulties. Step 2: Switch to a wallet that does not have a magnetic clasp or closure if you have recurring problems with your credit card strip. Although the magnetic clasp may not seem strong, according to CreditCards.com, it could be enough to damage the strip on your credit card. Step 3: Place your credit cards in the same direction when storing them in your wallet or other holder. Putting two different credit cards back to back, with the magnetic strips touching each other, can demagnetise the strips, rendering them useless. Step 4: Keep your credit card in a paper or Tyvek plastic sleeve to protect the strip against physical damage and demagnetisation. Some banks provide paper sleeves to their customers. You can also buy sleeves commercially to protect all of your cards. Step 5: Cut up an old credit card that you are no longer using, rather than just tossing it into the trash. According to Your Credit Network, an online credit card information resource, even if your is no longer active, the magnetic strip holds secure data about you and your spending habits. Hackers can potentially access the information if the strip is whole. How magnets can ruin credit cards It is a familiar scenario for anyone who has ever used plastic to pay: You hand over a perfectly valid credit or debit card at the cash of your favourite store, but after several swipes at the terminal, it fails to work. Is it karmic retribution for buying one too many copies of “People”? No, the most likely culprit is demagnetisation, a phenomenon that occurs when the magnetic stripe on the back of the card becomes corrupted. With magnetic stripes on everything from MasterCards to subway tickets – and magnets built into many everyday objects – demagnetisation can be an accident just waiting to happen. “There are some environments where it is fairly easy to demagnetise a card,” says Kevin Rhoads, a research engineer at Dartmouth University in New Hampshire. Note, however, that it isn’t the strength of the magnet that’s important; it’s the duration of exposure. Even the mightiest junkyard magnet won’t erase your card’s data if exposure is brief, but the little fridge magnet that can barely hold up that cute picture of Fluffy will – if the exposure is long enough. But how does magnetic energy result in the ruination of a card? It all has to do with the nature of the magnetic stripe itself. The black stripe on the back is filled with data about your , from the name of the card issuer to the limits on your card. This data is arranged on the stripe using tiny magnetic particles, so prolonged exposure to an external magnet can throw the information out of place and render the card unreadable. “If you disturb the way that the particles were aligned in the first place by putting a magnet close to it, it will disrupt that encoding,” according to the Vice-President, Product and Business Development, First Data, a payment-processing company in Atlanta, Steve Mathison. http://classicng.com/2016/10/05/protecting-debit-credit-cards-damage/ |

1. My son, if you keep spending on a woman and she never asked you if you’re saving or investing, and she keeps enjoying the attention, don’t marry her. 2. My son, a woman could be a good wife to you, some could be a good mother to your children but if you’ve found a woman like a mother to you, your children and your family, please don’t let her go. 3. My son, don’t confine the position of your wife to the kitchen, where did you get that from? Even in our days, we had farm-lands where they worked every morning . . . that was our office. 4. My son, if I tell you that you’re the head of the house, don’t look at your pocket; look if you will see a smile on your wife’s face. 5. My son, if you want to have a long life, let your wife be in-charge of your salary, it will be difficult for her to spend it when she’s aware of the home needs and bills to pay but if it’s in your care, she will keep you asking even when all has been spent. 6. My son, don’t ever beat your woman, the pain in her body is nothing to be compared to the wound on her heart and that means you may be in trouble living with a wounded woman. 7. My son, now that you’re married, if you live a bachelor kind of life with your wife, you will soon be single again. 8. My son, in our days, we had many wives and many children because of our large farm-lands and many harvests, there are hardly any land for farming anymore, so embrace your woman closely. 9. My son, under the cocoa tree that I did meet your mother could be your eateries and restaurants of nowadays, but , the closet thing we did there was to embrace each other. 10. My son, don’t be carried away when you start making more money, instead of spending on those tiny legs that never knew how hard you worked to get it, spend it on that woman that stood by you all along. 11. My son, when I threw little stones or whistled at the window of your mother father’s house, to call her out, it was not for sex, it was because I missed her so much. 12. My son, , when you say your wife has changed, there could be something you’ve stopped doing too. 13. My son, your mother, Asake rode the bicycle with me before I bought that tortoise car outside there, any woman that won’t endure with you in your little beginning should not enjoy your riches. 14. My son, don’t compare your wife to any woman, there are ways she’s enduring you too and has she ever compared you to any man? 15. My son, there is this thing you people call feminism, well, if a woman claim to have equal right with you in the house, divide all the bills into two equal parts, take one part and ask her to start paying the other part. 16. My son, I met your mother a virgin and I took more yams to her father, if you don’t meet your wife a virgin, don’t blame her, what I didn’t tell you is that our women had prestige. 17. My son, I didn’t send your sisters to school because I was foolish like many to think a female child won’t extend my family name, please don’t make that mistake, the kind of female achievers I see nowadays has made the male-gender an ordinary tag. 18. My son, your mother have once locked up the cloth I was wearing and almost tore it because she was angry, I did not raise my hand to beat her because of a day like this, so that I can be proud to tell you that I never for once beat your mother. 19. My son, in our days, our women had more of natural beauty, though I wouldn’t lie to you, some had minor painting of their appellation mostly on their arms, the ones you people now call tattoo, but don’t forget that they didn’t expose any part of their body like your women of nowadays. 20. My son, your mother and I are not interested in what happens in your marriage, try to handle issues without always coming to us. 21. My son, I bought your mother’s first sewing machine for her, help your wife achieve her dreams just as you’re pursuing yours. 22. My son, don’t stop taking care of me and your mother, it’s a secret of growing old and having children to take care of you too. 23. My son, pray with your family, there is a tomorrow you don’t know, talk to God that knows everything, everyday. Source ClassicNG |

![]() It is with heart filled with uncertainties and bewilderment that i write this public letter to you. You may not see this, but let it be on record that i wrote it. Before i proceed, let me congratulate you on the success of your court case whice clearly endeared you in the step you took in paying the civil servants a fraction of the salaries the government owe them for the past five months. It is really a good move, and i acknowledge that. Sir, I will like to state at this point, that you have not done too bad for a start as governor, your few months in office has recorded quite a measurable success as seen in some pointable structures and development you have put in place since your inception. But sir, your attitude in the most recent times towards the Kogi state university lecturers whom the govt owe about 5yrs allowance and 1month salary, in which you gave a threat of sack and ‘no work no pay’ to an already overbearing, hardworking(some) and sacrificing lecturers is outrightly outrageous and politically immature, disrespectful and unprofessional. Sir, did you in any way put into consideration the acerbity of your unrifined comment, did you in any way place yourself in their shoes, did you even realise these hard workers have families to carter for? I don’t think so. Sir it is either you were wrongly adviced, or you are under the influence of unseen forces which you must invite real men of God to revoke. Sir, if you don’t know, let me kindly give you some of the drastic effects which your action and political shenanigan has caused and will cost you, students, ksu and its environs. Firstly, this will create a dip hole on your integrity. What will people say of a governor, who is just few months old in office, won is seat after a protacted court war, allowed over two months strike in the only real working university in his state, and nw has threatened to sack the lecturers in that school and closing it up haba! Cont… Dear Gov Yahaya Bello Secondly sir, did you in a minute really put into consideration, the destinies of the students of ksu and the omnious situation you are placing the lives of the students? I believe you graduated from a university, did not buy a certificate, and so you should have a crystal clear knowledge of what am talking about. Sir, what do you expect students of ksu who do not have certificates to do at home? Past experiences have disclosed some of the bizzare effect of university strike action, which includes, sexual and immoral conducts, unwanted pregnancies, forced marriages, societal malfeasance, psychological and emotional imbalance, diseases which are but a few. Do you know the students are not likely to graduates with their peers in other university? Sir, i guese you have non of your wards or relatives in that school which is common to all Nigerian politicians. This i believe is one of the obvious reasons, you did not consider your stance. Also sir, did you consider the level of destruction, your decision will cause the image of the university. Already, ksu is not in the list of enviable universities in Nigeria, yet your recent action will take its remnants into oblivion. Sir, did you kogi state is one state which is ruined in abject poverty, and kogi state university(ksu) is a basic source of income for indigenes and non indigenes within and outside the school vicinity. Why do you want to kill your own people with hunger sir, why? Why? why? Sir i say why? Sir, i must hurt you with this unwavering truth which is that your action is unwise and will only lead to a clash of egos, that may really deviate from the main cause of the strike and thus prolong the already elongated strike. Sir i remain on my ground, just as i have told others, that you have to revert your statement and tender an unpolitical apology to the ASUU ksu chapter with no further delay, as failure to do so will be a disaster. Yours sincerely. Source ClassicNG |
