First attempt
F1& F2(wife and son)
Undergraduate: mechanical engineering
Work experience: 7 years as automobile engineer
Going for: masters in engineering
Funding-8500 (out of state Tuition waiver)
Deficit:44, 000k
Sponsor: Self
School: Texas tech university
Interview location: Abuja
Window 8

God used my baby for me as the guard gave nursing mothers chance to be interviewed first when he saw my wife breastfeeding him. So we were among the first set called in. I was the first to be interviewed by the white lady.
Please, go early and try to be interviewed first if possible. Our slot is 8:00am

After all the biometrics

VO: How old is your baby
Me: 14 months
VO: where do you work
Me: xyz auto garage ltd
VO: your company is at university of Ibadan? (she must have seen that on my ds160) I noticed she was checking my ds160 and I was actually very detailed when filling it. Please, fill your ds 160 form properly.

Me: Yes, in university of Ibadan
VO: nods head
VO: what are your job duties
Me: I am in charge of servicing of motor vehicle engines, ordering of vehicle parts from manufacturers and.... She cuts in

VO: what will this masters degree do for you
Me: (this was where I knew I goofed at first as everything I rehearsed flew away maybe because I was nervous). I will come back to Nigeria to establish my engineering consulting firm and take a better role at my place of work.
VO: Is it a thesis course
Me: No, it's a professional course for practicing engineers
VO: who will fund this deficit
Me: me, I already have savings that covers the two years from my real estate business. (she was still looking at my ds160 I guess. Because I added the real estate business under my job duties on the form). She cuts in but I can't what she said here.

She nodded and typed for long and like a magic... She kept our ports and gave us the almighty white paper. No document was checked even though I went with everything including my property documents.
F2 was not asked a single question after all the preparations.lol

Hint.. Avoid the...man at all cost. We were on the look out for him and
I prayed and I knew grace spoke for us.
Please if you believe in God fast and pray too, it worth it. Prepare like your life depends on it.
We took a step of faith by purchasing our travel bags before the interview day. I thank God for everything and everyone he used for us on this journey.

Thanks to
Moshkom, I was surprised to see him at our hotel to prep us. God bless you.
Thanks to Mahmoud, praise, Emillion..our mock sessions were great.
Thanks Mr Samuel, Mrs Deborah and every other persons that helped us
The appreciation is not complete without saying a big thank you to Nairaland USA student thread, we read chapter 15 & 16.
It was naija to Yankee thread that spurred this dream. Thanks to mackynaija

Getting EA now is almost impossible… I had to pull strings to get mine… they gave me last minute yesterday. My family and I had to run all the way from Cotonou overnight to do the interview this morning… my school is starting May 23rd and I don’t think they wanted to give me…

Congratulations on your approval.

Your case seems complicated and impossible but God came through for you.
I noticed you were confident with your answers. That and God's grace must have paved way for you.
I thank God for your life and this should be a lesson to everyone that Us visa is a case by case ISH.

Don't be discouraged, be prepared, pray and go for the interview.
Don't allow anyone discourage you especially the people going as F1 & f2.

Congratulations again ma'am. Your resources and labor was not in vain. I am really happy for you.

Hello Mekanta7
I really want to appreciate you for all the useful information you've shared in this forum

I have applied to Polytechnic Mauritius i was asked to Certify my documents which i have done and submitted back ,
I was asked to pay the following

Application fee 100 usd non refundable ,
istrative fee 1000usd
School Fee 4000 usd

The issue i am having now is about dependant Se what the school wrote to me " Kindly note that as a student you are not allowed to have a dependent on your student visa
If your wife has a work permit then only she can work in Mauritius
.
"

Seriously this is a Problem to me we just newly wedded i am 29yrs she's 24yrs in her 2nd Trimester(Pregnancy)

Mekanta7 i need your advice
Guys i need your advice

Thanks

Hello!
Polytechnics Mauritius is actually okay.i was in same shoe with you.
I applied for nursing, submitted my documents and they were about to start processing my visa when halted the processing.
Why?
I am married and I have a year old son.
They told me it's not allowed to come with any dependent. In fact, there is a woman in that same school that couldn't go with her child and husband, the last time I checked she was still trying to get her husband a Job in Mauritius so that he and their child can relocate.
I spoke to another Mauritian lady I met on another platform, she made enquiry for me and she said it's true that we can't go with dependent.

Flight fee is expensive and we wouldn't want to gamble with our money. Well, in our case, we got a better option. So, we forgo Mauritius.

My advice:
Pay all your fees and get the receipt before flying to Mauritius.
Visit visa will be issued to your wife on arrival. When you get to point of entry, let your wife explain that she is only accompanying you and that she will return so so day. Mind you, your wife's flight ticket must be a return ticket showing the day she will return.
You must have evidence of accomodation too and insurance. Very important!

Make proper findings and ensure your wife will be allowed to enter.
Another option which I know is that, a couple like you without kid, both of them applied to a cheap school together and went together.
So, plan well so that they won't send your wife back at point of entry.
Also, ensure you two have a valid travel/health insurance.

All this information I gave is based on my findings when I applied to poly Mauritius.
It might be different from another school.
Please, if you need any information talk to Ashwini. G the students affairs representative.
She is very helpful. Don't let anyone of this fake agents deceive you here with quick ission, cheap school fees and visa. Be ware!

Goodluck!

Thanks so much.
The issue now is that I am f2, I did exactly what you said here now but I can't find a place to update my application ID on F1's CGI portal.

Does it mean I don't need to bother about that?

Thank you for your input. Does it mean if I am not married, I wouldn’t be able to prove a strong home ties?

I went there is my work experience. I even had a letter from my company sef. But all those weren’t considered.

With this I think the issue now is funding.
Sorry about the delay
God will come through for you. I believe.

Thanks to God for his kindness and grace
All these happened in less than 2 minutes.

Tips
1. Fill your DS160 yourself, be as detailed as possible
2. Get your story straight, if your story doesn't sound believable to you, you won't be able to convince the VO.
3. Watch you-tube videos from ARGO VISA, this really helped a lot.
4. Lastly, PRAY.

Congratulations

I am assuming you mean MSc in General Engineering?
There is a possibility to change departments after the first semester - he might have to take pre-requisites to qualify for an enrollment into the Industrial Engrg program.

i. BSc Mech should have already qualified him for this.
ii. He might lose the waivers after the switch; those waivers are for the MSc in General Engrg.

OPT na optional practical training. Has a sibling called T - in simple , he can do internships and is granted post-study eligibility.

I just saw this after all the plenty explanations I did earlier. smiley
Yes, select courses in IEEN and switch after first semester. Let him what happens to the out-of-state waivers.

Very possible, he should highlight his 1 year experiences and he would get an internship.
These internships would show further work experience.

Thank you so much.

Your chances of getting the visa improve if your family is back home and you are going solo. It means you have family ties that will bring you back after your studies. If you go to interview as a family, you will be refused. Mark my words angry

Excuse Me, who are you.
You came from no where to start attacking people anyhow as if you are VO or what?

Carry your bad energy far away, okay.
You didn't even read her question carefully before opening your mouth anyhow.

It's rare for the VO to ask F2 if both are going together but if at all then questions like
What will you be doing in the US?
Why are you going with him?
What do you do here in Nigeria?

Thank you

1. Yes, both the primary applicant (F1), and the spouse (F2) would be questioned.

2. Don't really know about that. Reach out to your school for more info on that.

Thanks! What are the likely questions they may ask the wife (f2)
BunmiBie: 11:37am On Mar 09, 2022
beejhay69:

1. Yes and It's not a big deal, you'd just have to explain plans in place to take care of the children while you're schooling.
2. No.

Please, will the wife be asked questions too
Also, can the f2s be included in F1's health insurance plan.

Thanks

Thank you and hopefully you come to the US someday.

Actually, after reading all your posts I gingered my husband to apply to schools, in fact I dragged him to this thread and he was motivated as well.

He applied to many schools but got ission into TTU with out-of-state waiver for the first and second academic year. We were not even expecting any waiver.

He graduated in 2014 in the dept of mechanical engineering. He had his MSc from same dept too but he only worked has an engineer for let's say a year. Since then he has been working as a freelance writer.

Our worries now:
1) he applied for industrial engineering but I guess due to lack of job experience they redirected him to Engineering (MEN), which is interdisciplinary. He has the option to specialize in some areas. This department does not have GA, TA and internship. It's a taught course with OPT. What's OPT?
Do you think he should go ahead with this and which area do you think he should specialize in; biomedical, aerospace, biosystems, Computer, engineering physics, environment, materials science and engineering, mechatronics, and nuclear engineering. uPdate
He mailed the department and they told him to select his first semester courses from industrial engineering dept to be able to switch fully after first semester.
So we are fine with this.

2) without much work experience in Nigeria, will he be able to get a job in US after his program and will he cope with the system.

And other gurus in the house.
Thanks!

Please, MrsOlu and other .
My husband gained ission into Texas tech university with partial scholarship.

Now we are considering applying for visa together because I work remotely and there is nothing for me to do here. We have a son too, and we will love to go with him.
Is this not a red flag when applying for visa.
Also, can we use one of our parents and claim the person as our sponsor.
Hubby has been working remotely too since he graduated. Freelance writer, can he say that's what he does if VO asked him? Is that not a red flag too.
We are trying to prevent denial as usual.

They should please build a functional health centre there too because of residents' susceptibility to constant malaria sickness as a result of mosquito bite

Wow! It's nice to see this place again.
I served there in 2018/19 and this place used to be the only tourist attraction.

It's a cool place to visit and relax with family and friends.
God bless ossomala!
