Get alone with God (1) Wed, 11 Jun 2025 âJesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.â Mark 1:35 To grow spiritually, you must get alone with God. When you come into His presence, you should have these attitudes: 1) Anticipation. Expect to give and get from your time together. Make it a time of intimacy. Itâs impossible to have a love affair in a public place; intimacy calls for being alone with the one you love. The Bible speaks about Christ as the groom and us as His bride (see 2 Corinthians 11:2). Think of the anticipation and excitement shared in such moments. 2) Reverence. Donât rush into Godâs presence. Prepare your heart by being still before Him and letting the quietness clear away the thoughts of the world. Remind yourself who youâre meeting withâGod! The One who is â⌠worthy ⌠to receive glory and honour âŚâ (Revelation 4:11 NIV). 3) Alertness. Go to bed early so you will be in good shape to meet with God in the morning. He deserves your full attention. Give Him the best part of your dayâwhen youâre the freshest. Follow Christâs example: âVery early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayedâ (Mark 1:35 NIV). 4) Willingness. Itâs crucial that you donât come to your quiet time to decide what you will or wonât do, but with the purpose of doing anything and everything God wants you to do. John says, âAnd we will receive from Him whatever we ask because we obey Him and do the things that please Himâ (1 John 3:22 NLT). When you get alone with God, make up your mind to do whatever He says. |

Connect. Commit. Communicate. Tue, 10 Jun 2025 âShe has been helpful to many, and especially to me.â Romans 16:2 When it comes to lifeâs great achievers, the apostle Paul is in a league of his own. But he takes one entire chapter of the Bible, Romans 16, to acknowledge all the people who helped him to succeed in his calling. The chapter could be captioned âI couldnât have done it without you!â He starts by talking about Phoebe, â⌠who is worthy of honour ⌠for she has been helpful to many, and especially to meâ (Romans 16:2 NLT). President Lyndon Johnson said, âThere are no problems we cannot solve together, and very few that we can solve by ourselves.â When God created Adam, He said, â... It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper âŚâ (Genesis 2:18 NKJV). And He created Eve. From the beginning of time, God teaches us that very little of significance is ever accomplished by an individual acting alone. Look below the surface, and you will invariably find that all the single-handed feats are really team efforts. Australian pioneer of the aviation industry, Charles Kingsford Smith, with his co-pilot Charles Ulm achieved a series of aviation firsts. Australian doctors Ken and Jocelyn Elliott were a formidible team, working in Burkina Faso. Even German-born physicist Albert Einstein acknowledged: âMany times a day I realise how much my own outer and inner life is built upon the labours of my fellow men, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received.â The secret to success in any endeavour can be summed up in these three words: connect ⌠commit ⌠communicate. |

Bearing spiritual fruit Mon, 9 Jun 2025 âSo God created man in His own image ⌠Then ⌠said âŚâBe fruitful âŚââ Genesis 1:27-28 A pastor writes: âWhen God created man, He made him âin His own imageâ. That was Godâs original plan, and it has not changed. He wants to make us like Himself ⌠godly. He does it by working on our character through His Word, through His Holy Spirit, and through circumstances. The Greek word for âcharacterâ ⌠means âtested and proven reliableâ. It brings to mind the work of a blacksmith, describing something that has gone through the fire, has been beat on ⌠but has stood the test.â Notice, one of the first things God said to man was, âbe fruitful.â And Jesus tells us how: â"He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothingââ (John 15:5 NKJV). But fruit takes time to ripen. When you try to rush the process, it doesnât taste as good. Have you ever tasted gassed tomatoes? You might buy them at the supermarket. If farmers pick ripe tomatoes and ship them, they could get smashed enroute to market. So, they may pick them green, spray them with ethylene gas before they go to market, and the gas quickly ripens green tomatoes into red. If you have ever tasted a vine-ripened tomato, you know there is no comparison to those that have been quickly ripened. Similarly, it takes time for spiritual fruit to grow in your life. You canât take a crash course and graduate with spiritual maturity. It requires a lifetime of walking with God, leaning on Him, learning from Him, and loving Him with all your heart. God wants to produce the fruit of the Spirit in your life, so cooperate with Him. |

Your life is a letter (3) Sunday 8th June 2025 âTherefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come...â 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV Every day, people âreadâ you. The question is: what kind of message are they getting? Here is what theyâre supposed to get: âAnd we all, ⌠are being transformed into His image âŚâ (2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV). âRather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; âŚâ (2 Corinthians 4:2 NIV). âTherefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!â (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV). In other words, your letter should make it clear that youâre no longer the person you once were because: 1) Christ has changed you spiritually. Once you didnât enjoy Godâs Word or obey His commands. Now you hear, receive, love, and obey His Word and revel in it (see Psalm 119:97-106). 2) Christ has changed you morally. In 1 Corinthians 6, Paul lists many of the sins that once characterised our lives. He mentions those who are immoral, thieves, greedy, drunkards, slanderers, swindlers, etc. Then comes this wonderful verse: âAnd that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified âŚâ (1 Corinthians 6:11 NIV), just as if youâd never sinned. In other words, God has transformed your character qualities. 3) Christ has changed you mentally. â⌠be transformed by the renewing of your mind. âŚâ (Romans 12:2 NIV). Now you look at life, yourself, others, your challenges, your options, and opportunities in the light of Godâs thoughts instead of your own. You see possibilities where before you saw only problems. Your mind, which was once frazzled by worry, is now filled with confidence and peace. In essence, your letter should transmit this message to the people you meet: âChrist has changed my life for the better, and if you let Him, He will change yours too!â |

The Silent Disaster of Lake Nyos: Natureâs Invisible Killer On the night of August 21, 1986, a remote lake in northwestern Cameroon became the site of one of the most mysterious natural disasters in modern history. Without warning, Lake Nyos released a massive cloud of carbon dioxide (COâ)âcolorless, odorless, and deadly. The gas silently rolled down into nearby villages while people slept. Within minutes, 1,746 people and over 3,500 animals were dead. Survivors described waking up to find entire communities lifeless, with no visible injuriesâonly silence. This rare phenomenon, called a limnic eruption, occurs when volcanic gases build up in deep lake water and suddenly erupt. The COâ cloud displaces oxygen in the air, causing rapid suffocation. In response, scientists installed degassing systems in Lake Nyos and similar lakes to prevent future tragedies. But the disaster remains a haunting reminder that not all threats are loud or visible. --- đ§ Did You Know? COâ is heavier than air. When released in large volumes, it can flow like waterâsilently filling valleys and suffocating everything in its path.

Your life is a letter (2) Saturday 7th June 2025 âWe ⌠are being transformed into His image ...â 2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV You have probably heard the old saying about doctors and their prescriptions, âThey can read writing, but they canât write reading.â A letter must be easily read and understood. Incomprehensible writing distorts the message and discourages the reader. The purpose of a letter is to convey the writerâs thoughts. When it doesnât, the reader stops reading or fails to get the message. And since âYou show that you are a letter from Christ,â (2 Corinthians 3:3 NIV), here are some common distortions you need to avoid: 1) Dishonesty on the job. That includes things like inflating your expenses, stealing company time, and taking home items you think wonât be missed. 2) A bad attitude. For example, resentment when a friend, fellow worker, or boss asks you at an inconvenient time to help them and go the extra mile. 3) Substandard work reflected in shoddy products and services. 4) Unreliability and inconsistency. Can you be counted on to be where youâre supposed to be and to fulfil your obligations? 5) Being a killjoy. Christians who lack a sense of humour and act like they are joy impaired hurt the cause of Christ instead of helping it. 6) Touchiness. How do people âreadâ you? Do you wear your feelings on your sleeve? Are you easily upset? Do you overreact to unintended offences? 7) Temper tantrums. Are you crabby, grumpy, and complaining when things donât go your way? ![]() |

Your life is a letter (1) Fri, 6 Jun 2025 âYou show that you are a letter from Christ,â 2 Corinthians 3:3 Paul wrote to the Corinthian believers: âYou yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, ⌠on tablets of human heartsâ (2 Corinthians 3:2-3 NIV). Usually, when we get letters through the post, we sort it into two piles: important letters and junk mail. How do we make that determination? By answering these two questions: 1) Who is the letter from? The source determines your interest level. And you are a letter to the world from Christ, and about Christ, âFor what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, âŚâ (2 Corinthians 4:5 NIV). Religious people often promote their denomination, but weâre called to promote Christâand Him alone. Are people really interested? Yes, Jesus promised, âAnd I, when I am lifted up ⌠will draw all people to myselfâ (John 12:32 NIV). Nothing is more needed today than a living portrait of Jesus reflected in the lives of His redeemed people. So, deliver your love letter to whoever crosses your path. 2) Who is the letter addressed to? The Bible answers that question: â⌠that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting lifeâ (John 3:16 NKJV). Dr David Yonggi Cho built the worldâs largest church in Seoul, South Korea: almost a million people. Thatâs bigger than many towns and cities. But as a young Buddhist, he was led to Christ by a lady he only met once. What if she had decided to remain silent? Your life is a letter from Christ with the potential to change someone elseâs life, so make sure you deliver it. |

Donât get ahead of God Thu, 5 Jun 2025 âExcept the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it...â Psalm 127:1 One Bible teacher writes: âSatan doesnât mind when we build, as long as heâs the head contractor. Heâll make sure we smear Godâs name all over our dreams, then when they fail, itâll look like He failed. Romans 8:14 says, âFor as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of Godâ (KJV). Itâs important to know Godâs plan, as well as when, where, and through whom He wants it accomplished. Itâs easy to get caught up in the busyness of ministry and run ahead of Him. The key is to stay in constant communication and let Him lead you step by step so that everything is in place for a successful outcome. Like the military, the troops may be informed about the mission, but they must wait for their commander to tell them when and how to accomplish their assignment. A soldier doesnât attend one briefing and then run off and accomplish the plan alone. He stays in with his commanding officer, who coordinates the mission and leads him and his fellow soldiers to victory. Itâs vital to stay in touch with headquarters so you know the master plan, stay on course, and achieve victory.â If youâre inclined to go it alone, make this your prayer: âGod, itâs foolish to get ahead of Youâbut putting that into practice isnât easy. Show me how I can spend more time with You and become more sensitive to Your voice. If I go off on my own, have Your Holy Spirit check and correct my spirit. I donât want to build in vain. I want my ministry to be an extension of You, so You get the glory.â |

Out with the old and in with the new! Wed, 4 Jun 2025 âNo one puts new wine into old wineskins;â Mark 2:22 As a new creation, youâre no longer controlled by your old behaviour but by your relationship with Christ. You may have been given a new uniform at work when they rebranded and remodelled the business, but if your sullen attitude remains the same, then itâs like putting new wine into old wineskin. Jesus says weâre bound to fail because â⌠the new wine bursts the wineskins, ⌠and the wineskins are ruined âŚâ (Mark 2:22 NKJV). But donât we do the same when it comes to our Christian walk? The new wine of honesty-at-work, poured into the old wineskin of cutting corners. The new wine of unconditional love, poured into the old wineskin of hatred for the family two doors down. The new wine of worship, poured into the old wineskin of idolising money, power, music, or the latest video game. The new wine of Bible study, poured into the old wineskin of âgotta-go-pop-tart-for-breakfast' busyness. The new wine of humility, poured into the old wineskin of conceit. The new wine of forgiveness, poured into the old wineskin of bitterness. The new wine of others first, poured into the old wineskin of selfish ambition. The new wine of joy, poured into the old wineskin of jealousy and factions. The new wine of peace, poured into the old wineskin of discord.â If any of this sounds familiar, itâs time to ditch the old wineskin and let God make you a powerful, new, clean vessel. |

Today, use your God-given power Tue, 3 Jun 2025 âYou shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;â Acts 1:8 You say, âIf Christ lives in me, why do I still think and act the way I do?â A Christian leader explains: âThe answer is illustrated in a story about a lady who had a small house ⌠at the turn of the century. She was quite wealthy but also quite frugal ⌠People were surprised, then, when she decided to be among the first to have electricity in her home. Several weeks after the installation, a meter reader appeared at her door. He asked her if her electricity was working well, and she assured him it was. âIâm wondering if you can explain something to me,â he said. âYour meter shows scarcely any usage. Are you using your power?â âCertainly,â she answered. âEach evening when the sun sets, I turn on my lights just long enough to light my candles; then I turn them off.ââ Sheâs tapped into the power but didnât use it. Her house is connected but not altered. Donât we make the same mistake? We, tooâwith our souls saved but our hearts unchangedâare connected but not altered. Trusting Christ for salvation but resisting transformation. We occasionally flip the switch, but most of the time we settle for shadows. What would happen if we left the light on? What changes would occur if we set about the task of dwelling in the radiance of Christ? No doubt about it: God has ambitious plans for us. The same one who saved your soul longs to remake your heart. His plan is nothing short of a total transformation.â âFor those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, âŚâ (Romans 8:29 CSB). Today, use your God-given power. |
