GOSIMA Group GMD Hosts End-of-Year Thanksgiving in Ishiagu Community, Celebrates Philanthropy and Community Development

Ishiagu, Ebonyi State – December 28, 2024

The tranquil town of Ishiagu in Ebonyi State came alive today as GOSIMA Group, led by its visionary President, Dr. Gideon Chidiebere Osi (fondly known as GOC), hosted a grand End-of-Year Thanksgiving Celebration for the community. The event, which brought together dignitaries, community leaders, and residents, was marked by an outpouring of generosity, empowerment, and celebration, setting a hopeful tone for the year.

Dr. Gideon Osi, an illustrious son of Ishiagu, used the occasion to underscore his unwavering commitment to the development of his community. The thanksgiving celebration, organized in collaboration with the Ishiagu Community Development Union (ICDU), was sponsored by the GOSIMA Group and featured a series of impactful initiatives aimed at transforming lives and enhancing the socio-economic fabric of the region.

One of the highlights of the event was the official commissioning of the 2km Amata community road by Dr. Gideon. This significant infrastructural project underscores his dedication to the growth and development of Ishiagu. The newly constructed road, a gift to the community, is expected to improve accessibility, stimulate local trade, and provide a smoother commute for residents. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dr. Gideon expressed his gratitude to the community for their and shared his vision for a more connected and prosperous Ishiagu. He described the road as not just an infrastructural achievement but also a symbol of hope, unity, and progress for the people.

The event also featured a remarkable display of economic empowerment through the GOSIMA Group and the Gideon and Joy Life and Leadership Foundation. Over 1,000 women, including widows and indigent community , received Christmas gifts to mark the festive season. This generous gesture brought smiles to countless faces and reflected the chairman’s enduring comion for the less privileged. Furthermore, Dr. Gideon facilitated the distribution of strategic empowerment items to food and beverage vendors in the community. These beneficiaries were also trained on food preservation techniques, small-scale business development, and financial management skills. They received mentorship and seed capital, equipping them with tools and resources to succeed.

The most anticipated moment of the day was the announcement of another N100 million scholarship scheme by the Gideon and Joy Life and Leadership Foundation. This initiative mirrors a similar gesture made by the Foundation last year, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to education and youth development. Speaking at the event, Dr. Gideon emphasized the importance of education in nation-building and expressed hope that these scholarships would empower young minds to achieve greatness. He described education as the bedrock of sustainable development and reaffirmed his belief that these scholarships would give the youth the wings to soar and contribute meaningfully to society.

The day also doubled as a celebration of Dr. Gideon Osi’s 45th birthday, which took place on December 23. Guests and community praised his selfless dedication and far-reaching impact on the lives of countless individuals. His wife, Mrs. Joy Osi, who co-runs the Foundation, was also commended for her pivotal role in driving the Foundation’s humanitarian initiatives.

Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, GCON, a former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, graced the event and commended Dr. Gideon for his efforts in fostering development in Ishiagu. Chief Anyim, who is known for his long-standing contributions to the community, reaffirmed his commitment to ing initiatives that uplift Ishiagu. Describing Dr. Gideon’s efforts as transformative, Chief Anyim remarked that Ishiagu is blessed to have sons like Dr. Gideon Osi, whose selflessness and vision are shaping a brighter future for the people.

The Ishiagu Christian Fellowship played a critical role in organizing the Thanksgiving program, which was sponsored by the GOSIMA Group. Recognized as the primary partner and driver of the event, the Fellowship was pivotal in redefining the mode of Christmas celebration and Thanksgiving in the community. The collaboration ensured the success of the event and its numerous empowerment initiatives.

The celebration concluded with a heartfelt thanksgiving service, during which community gathered to express gratitude for the blessings of the year and to pray for a prosperous 2025. The atmosphere was filled with joy, music, and the unmistakable energy of a community coming together to celebrate progress and shared aspirations.

Dr. Gideon’s impactful gestures, from infrastructure development to educational , business empowerment, and humanitarian aid, served as a powerful reminder of the difference one individual can make when driven by purpose and comion. As Ishiagu bids farewell to 2024, the legacy of this year’s Thanksgiving celebration will undoubtedly inspire hope, unity, and progress in the hearts of its people.

This event, sponsored and driven by the GOSIMA Group, stands as another milestone in Dr. Gideon’s journey to empower and uplift his community. It is a testament to what is possible when vision meets action and comion fuels purpose.

What an inspiring story! Kudos to the OP for sharing.

Back then in my university days too, the bookworms survived on scholarships.

And those of us wey no sabi book, we survived by scamming our parents. We were either inflating our school fees or requesting for money for "course form" "handouts" "lab materials" "field trip" "research work" etc.

All of them na still scholarship. cheesy cheesy

My name is Ajah Excel Anayo,
This story is how a "Yello Brand" restored hope to a hopeless child.

I had completed my secondary education as the best student in WASSCE and third Best in NECO in 2008 from Federal Government College Okigwe.

For lack of sponsorship, I couldn't write JAMB that year till 2011 after I had raised some money from a teaching job I took.

Fortunately, I wrote JAMB and scored 277 and 264 in post utme, so I got ission to study Information Management Technology in Federal University of Technology Owerri.
Then the big question "?", How will I pay acceptance, how will I do clearance, how will I pay school fees , What of accommodation, text books etc.

Fortunately, my friend from FGC okigwe met me in FUTO and gave me N25,000 to pay my acceptance. Another of my FGC Okigwe student took me in to stay in his room.
That was how I got into FUTO.

Sincerely, I didn't bring anything to FUTO except two shirts and two tros and 4 JAMB past questions I used for tutorial for predegree students.

So I started looking for scholarship opportunities, All through 100level, I didn't win any.

Before the semester exams, we were told that those who had not paid school fees will not write the exams. I became so scared and started looking for help all over.

One morning I decided to call the office line of FGC Okigwe Vice Principal, Mrs Ebere Dike. I told her that her best student in 2008 WASSCE wants to drop out for lack of sponsorship and asked I if the school could help in anyway.
She told me that the principal who knew me had left and the current one is the third principal since I graduated. Finally, she promised to present my case.

As God would have the new Principal Mrs. Rose N. Nwachukwu took pity and paid my school fees. That was how I wrote the exam.
Results were released and I came top of my class with a 4.45 gpa.

In my second year, the same challenge surfaced again, this time I almost dropped out.
Then came the light of hope
I got to learn about MTN Foundation Scholarship on the Internet from a scholarship website and my CGPA met the requirement.
I applied and got enlisted for the exam. 13th of March 2013, MTN Nigeria restored hopes to me and many others with an award of N200,000 yearly.

With that money, I Paid my second-year fees, bought my first laptop I used to start a side hustle. MTN Foundation made good their promise and I received that till I graduated.

Before I forget, Within same year I got the scholarship, I thought of how I could help other students who are indigent like me get access to scholarship information.
In 2013 I started an online platform called Nigerian University Scholarships. It grew so quickly and became the go-to portal for scholarship and other educational resources.
Today the platform has grown to become Worldscholarshipforum.com with over 2 million monthly visitors looking for scholarship information on the portal and has grown to birth a company Silicon Africa that now host Smfest one of Nigeria 🇳🇬 largest tech innovation conference.

Today we help over 2 million students every month access information on scholarships and other financial aid programmes through World Scholarship Forum
I am happily married and have 3 lovely kids whose future is also secured.
All these were only possible because the "Yello Brand" gave a helping hand.
I cannot finish my success story without mention of this "Yello Brand".
Dear MTNC Foundation, you didn't just help me, you helped a generation.
This might be longer than expected but I can't hold the excitement I feel each time I share this story of how MTN Foundation restored hopes to my dying dreams.
This is my 2013 version before MTN came to my rescue.

Note: the cheque is a dummy cheque that represents Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba names
