I have gotten to the soakaway stage in my bungalow. I have very limited space. It's half plot (100 by 25), and I was able to squeeze a two bedroom flat and two mini flat on it as a single unit.
The problem now is, the only space remaining in front is where d soakaway will be and aside from the conventional soakaway, which other option do I have.. I won't consider Biodigester because this is a rental property. Tenant hardly follow rules. The remaining space can manage two small car. The car will be parked ON d soakaway always and this bothers me. My dad's soakaway just went down on its own last year after 9 years and car is not even allow on it.
Someone is advising I consider the ring soakaway due to space. Is there any disadvantage to this ring's own..My land is not very hard, tho not swampy..its just in d middle. What other options do I have? Appreciate any response

It is possible to have such design without any fear of collapse, if it is properly designed by a structural engineer and also constructed as designed cos the weight of the roof : trusses and covering would have been taken into consideration during the design stage.

For such cantilever beams, the size and position/placement of the reinforcement bar is very important in order to adequately the load it would be subjected to without any deflection or failure.

If your engineer has done the right thing then there is nothing to be worried about.

He assured me he used enough 16mm rods with good reinforcement. What do you guys think?

I do not additional floor(s) during construction stage without structural redesign and checks to confirm the suitability of the .
However since this floor is to the solar s only , you don’t need 20mm bars for the columns, instead use 16mm as your second to roof level columns reinforcements and also ensure that you stiffen the s with reinforced concrete beams.

Let your structural engineer design the roof slab and beam, the thickness of your slab should be at least 150mm (6inches) or as designed by the engineer.

I would like to seek opinions from esteemed and building experts here.

I am currently building a 2 storey(3 floor) house with about 40 pillars: The structural design stated 16mm rods for pillar reinforcement and we are adhering to it.

However, I have decided to change the roof design from an aluminum roof to a concrete slab(deck) roof for asthetics purposes and most importantly because I want to fill the entire roof with solar s and we want to be able to move around it easily and clean them regularly.


Now my question is, do I need to add extra reinforcements for the structure to be able to take the roof slab? My structural engineer says a 4 inch roof slab will suffice and I do not need to add extra reinforcements. I am wondering if we should have just used 20mm rods for the pillars from the beginning.

Does anyone have an idea if the 16mm pillars will suffice to carry the additional load?

This concrete wall has failed, i suggest you break it off and do a new one well reinforced, with adequate thickness and good mix ratio.
