mrvitalis: The international enger traffic in Lagos shows thousands of people travel from Ilorin, Ekiti, Oshogbo, Akure and of course Oyo, to Lagos to connect flights abroad Clearly it’s a viable airport that will reduce congestion in Lagos especially on the LOS-LHR and about to be introduced LOS-JFK route. It will end up being the third busiest airport for international engers within a year 15 Likes 1 Share |

[quote author=yoruboid Clearly it’s a viable airport that will reduce congestion in Lagos especially on the LOS-LHR and about to be introduced LOS-JFK route. It will end up being the third busiest airport for international engers within a year [/quote] I doubt international airlines will run Ibadan to Europe or US flights. Ibadan is simply too close to MMIA. MMIA is also about to expand its runways. An airport in Lekki Airport is also under planning. That will further squeeze Ibadan airport. Nigeria doesn't have sufficient travelers to sustain all the international airports, which is ok. Ibadan might end up doing flights to mecca and stuffs like that. Like Kano. 1 Like |

Moroccoguy:How? How can this airport with the many bad roads in the area, serve as an alternative to Muritala Muhammed Airport for Pete's sake? Any more the state gets would be best spent on building a high-speed enger rail system to transport people from the Lagos airport to Ibadan, from the local airport, and back. No need to waste money that Oyo currently does not have to spend on this, for lack of a better word at this point, white elephant that has yet to prove its worth. ![]() 1 Like 1 Share |

DeLaRue:That is if the project isn't yet another avenue to see money embezzled in the name of updating a potential elephant project. Ibadan should be channeling any money it gets a hold of now into a high-speed enger rail system to connect to all parts of the state including Lagos. It should take advantage of the influx of investors into neighboring Lagos in a big way at this point in time. Some of that money is bound to flow Oyo's way if it critically positions itself as a more affordable alternative to Lagos living, industry, and building. ![]() 2 Likes |

Shadomaan7:Look around at all the other "international airports" that litter states across the country that are sitting today in terrible shape after millions have been poured down the drain under the guise of attracting investors. And tell me that you have not yet realized that investors are not stupid. A state that barely has an excellent transportation system for goods and ground engers yet with an international airport is not trying to attract investors but instead trying to build an airport for the corrupt goons in power to steal money with. Oyo should rather invest in a high-speed enger rail network/system and possibly a good freight train system to move goods from one point in the state to another. Then it would not have to say much to bring local and international investors rushing in. ![]() 2 Likes |

Another wasted resources loading, ibadan to the Lagos airport is just about 2 hours with traffic.......that money should be used for other pressing initiatives like employment schemes and adequate manpower in our health sector ![]() ![]() 1 Like |

Kobojunkie: The fact the other ones are not infested with engers because of lack economic activities in such state or region do not mean other ones with great prospect should not be upgraded. You will not tell me that Abuja, Lagos, port Harcourt and Kano airports don't enjoy traffic 2 Likes |

Benwallt:Huh? We are talking here of an airport that is over 40 years in Ibadan and has in all of that time not shown any great prospect ooo! Why in the world would you choose to sink more seriously limited funds into it if it has yet to prove viable in over 4 decades when there are numerous other areas of development needed in the same state that have yet to be addressed? The area of water reclamation and treatment for example. The enger rail system is another. ![]() 1 Like 1 Share |

Kobojunkie:I have flown into that Airport a couple of times and I can tell you of a fact that it's Runway is horribly short and is a disaster in waiting. The current Minister for Power aircraft over ran that Runway last year. The Airport is overdue for an upgrade at least to allow bigger Aircraft to use the place. Thinking ahead may justify why it should be upgraded to accommodate international flights. Currently Ilorin International Airport which over 400km away is considered as the alternative to Lagos, God forbid emergency at MMA Lagos 3 Likes |

Kobojunkie:The runway is short. It can't be viable in its current form. |
Kobojunkie: 5:56am On Jun 27, 2024 |
Lifestone:1. That airport is over 40 years old and has been living on life for the entirety of that time; it has never proven itself a viable airport for the state to have. Why should the state sink billions of limited naira into it just so you and a handful of other fliers can fly conveniently at a loss to the taxpayer? ![]() 2. Thinking ahead when the state has yet to think seriously about even a Water reclamation and treatment plant to ensure clean water is provided to every citizen all across the state and curb the issue of flooding and erosion? Thinking ahead when Oyo state does not even have a basic enger rail system to help ease serious transportation problems in the state? Thinking ahead all in order that a handful of Oyo indigenes can claim they too have an airport? Come on! ![]() 1 Like |

Lifestone:After 40 years of being in business it cannot even pay for the extension of its own runway? Can we please stop enabling waste and start demanding common sense at every point and corner? The airport is not a priority and should not be until the state has resolved all other more basic amenities in the state that can and will impact many actual people than this elephant project of an airport has been able to in all 40 years it has been in existence. ![]() 1 Like |
