It's not about drainage. The report says the river overflowed its banks. Drainage systems are meant to channel water to canals, streams and rivers, but when rivers overflow their banks and backflow into communities, drainages aren't of any help.

It’s why I smh when I even see some estates having to construct their own drainage channels there needs to be a drainage master plan in Nigerian cities
