Well if you got a friend who has a laptop with NVIDIA try running it on their own machine and see if it works. If it works you know is probably your gpu is no longer ed you have to upgrade your laptop or you update your gpu drivers

Yea, i model using shapes then add edges and extrudes to shape them well. But for the head i use edge extrusion from a single plain (i find it to be more accurate)

As you move to more dense complex scenes and characters you'd need something better though. Cuz, it's a laptop. 3D animAtion roasts laptops. So, with low-poly characters you'd be fine
