Running on metal wheel will destroy it.

I actually concur with what the Op has said but all these lies on the ability to keep a cool head and not panic, which is easier said than done. I lost my brakes sometime last year while I was doing 90km/h on a high way. My saving grace was ability to notice on time and also try my best not to alert my other enger before she starts to panic. I almost rammed into another car but I swerved on time and when I saw a clear path I engaged my hand brake in small successions till I got to a full stop. People make mistake by yanking the hand brakes at once, and that causes most cars to somersault or spin outta control. 3 Likes |

ClintonDal: Break failure and Tyre blowout are two different scenarios. While brake loss induces fear alright, especially if you're in top speed and have traffic in front of you, tyre burst doesn't attract that much fear, because you still have a relative control of the car more than you would in a brake failure. I've had tyre burst twice in highway and one brake failure, I found the brake failure experience more mind-overwhelming . |

Its easy to read all the do's and donts, but very hard almost impossible to go through with em all,the only thing that can reduce mortality from a blown out tyre is the ops first point,"speed"the higher the speed the lower the chances of getting out alive, all other points are secondary as this event happens within seconds, your brain has no time to process any lists of donts and do's,just survival pops up!!!fact is once you have a blow out and the vehicle doesnt topple over in 10s then you have a chance to go through safety measures, a blow out is crazy its easier imagined than experienced, the sudden loud noise jolts you outa any thoughts, your vehicle starts swerving in an opposite direction, rigorous jolting as a result of the imbalanced wheels, depending on the side the tyre is,i think rear blow outs tends to be the deadliest, recently a nairalander gave a hint about the causes of blow outs, too much pressure in tyres,i think preventing blowouts is better than correctin it.

TheDarknight:different strokes for different folks indeed,i prefer brake failure have had three experiences with brake failures, two on a highway one in ma neighbourhood, though mind blowing i still had a control over the vehicle, had a choice of steering it off human traffic, ramming into any obstruction, bringing the vehicle to a stop with its gears"manual transmission " but the day i had a blow out, ma heart was in my mouth, even though i was on a low speed, the vehicle still gave me some drama before i could bring it to a stop,at top speed and with a blow out you are at the mercy of your ride as it'l accept lil or no instructions from you anymore, have seen what blow outs does and what brake failure does too,but i'l pick brake failure as the lesser evil. 2 Likes |

ethene:That is the one of the worst decisions one could take under such circumstance. If one does that, the steering wheel becomes stiff, and one can't control the vehicle. 1 Like |

streetzdreamz: Lolz, no doubt. My top most speed with a burst tyre was 120km/h And that car wasn't well aligned so it did some swerving ....loolz. It depends on the car anyways. Jeeps are at a little more disadvantage. Maybe my experience with brake failure informed my distress with it. Was descending a slope with good speed in highway when a Mercedes articulated lorry coming from the other lane veered onto my lane without any signals. I slammed on my brakes and.......no response. I had to do a sharp turn to divert the collision. If it weren't a Benz, I could well have been on the bush or rolling over. After I regained control, I had to use the gears (manual ) to reduce engine speed. Turned out the hydraulic hose was leaking fluid. |

TheDarknight:hells bells, that was quite close!!!!its funny when one gets to understand vehicle components and mechanism, a leaking hose would have still worked if the pressure wasnt high, your sudden application of the brakes caused a further opening of the hose reducing any chances of a good grip, mine happened on a free way which was my saving grace that day,no human traffic no vehicular traffic, was approaching an intersection and tried to slow down, ma pedal was slamming against the vehicle floor,no single pressure from the brakes, was thinking of ramming into a mould by the road side when i saw another path filled with speed breaks"bumps" with the hope that it will bring ma vehicle to a stop, went over 6-7 of em and it still wouldn't stop,it was then i ed stopping manual rides with gears,it gave a funny sound but it did stop the vehicle. 1 Like |

TheDarknight:Well if you say so, I've never had a burst tire so I can't really say which is more overwhelming. But in that case of brake failure, I was scared to my pants. |
TheDarknight: 11:25am On May 01, 2016 |
ClintonDal:Lolz, like I was. Because fsct is, you'll have a need to stop or slow down your car to notice there's brake failure. I think that makes it scary! |

The fact is that all points are equally important here no doubt;but in order of importance to me they are 2-4-3-5-6,as important as point 1,it is actually a warning only helpful before it happens, once it does point 1 is of no use. Then again, the essence of the whole thing is to be as smooth as possible, with confidence and grace and not being rough, in such a situation |

Very accurate. I've experienced this and in my case, at 182KM/H (2012 Mazda 3 (Axela)). The car was absolutely stable while I decelerated gradually till I came to a stop.
