It's funny how I only discovered city-data forum yesterday, and now someone mentions it today. Such a giant forum about pretty much every city in the world. Kept me glued to my PC all day.

Greetings to everyone. Please my Ontario people,is there anyone living in Oakville here? Pls I would like to know how convenient it is to work in Toronto and live in Oakville? I looked online and the city seems ok for raising kids, I think car insurance seems slightly lower than what you might get in Toronto and Mississauga( not certain about this info). Info online tells me that it will take about 37-40mins to get to Toronto. Biko my people, can I rely on that, then for someone
who may not get a car immediately, does it make sense settling in Oakville and working in Toronto.
Oakville is a very quiet, cool city, 96% white city though. Child friendly Yeah, car insurance is lower than suaga, Brampton but accommodation in Oakville is a lil higher. Depends on your job in Toronto, by G0 train is 50mins. A lot of people do shuttle, either park and ride or go by bus from house to station and then take train to Toronto. Costs 8-10$ though/train ride.

Hi Guys, thanks for all this valuable info on this thread. I’m looking to move to Canada mid next year but I’m having difficulties deciding on which city to live in. Hubby is a pharmacist and I’m an ant and one of my criteria for a city to live in would be where pharmaceutical head offices and finance firms are situated so hubby and I can have great career prospects. Toronto seems like the easy choice but it’s quite expensive and I’d prefer another city with the same criteria I’m looking for. I’m also looking for a city that’s warm. I really don’t like the cold and will like to avoid it as much as possible.

There are a couple of pharmaceutical companies in Mississauga and you as an ant can get a job anywhere within the GTA axis, Mississauga inclusive. The cost of living in Mississauga is not the cheapest though.

Not really. Nairaland is a pastime for those of us on nairaland. And the population figures of hip are exaggerated because the regular nairalander has 2 s while the professionals have at least five.

I would say the average Nigerian does not know Nairaland. At most the name will sound familiar for those who are online a lot.

Good day all,

Has anyone attempted to change mailing address for you PR card, the address I first quoted upon landing has changed and I would like to update it. When I use the online IRCC service, it says my records are not found. I have equally visited service Canada and they just give you a number to call, which does not find my record either. I would not want my card mailed to the old address.

Thanks

We also had to update our address for PR card delivery after getting permanent accommodation. Here is the
link: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/change-address.html We called them to confirm it was updated as well on 1-888-242-2100 (press 2320 when you get through to
get directed to the right department).

Clothes I bought at Yaba
1: winter jacket
2: inner jacket
3: interior of the thermal tros
4: thermal longsleeve shirt

Thanks einsteino for the pictures, very thoughtful of you! Looking at the pictures though, one would think we were talking about living in the North Pole smiley

I have stayed in the East Coast of the US in the deadliest of winters and didn't require this much, is it safe to assume that Canada (in your case Montreal/Toronto et al) is colder? I did check the weather today, NY is 390, Phil is 450 and Ottawa is 370.

I just want to manage my expectations. Thanks again.

Good detective work Tojued. I have just realize that as of today's nairaland has 2,114,315 . But the real figure can be less than a million given the reasons elaborated in your post.
Nigeria has close to 200 millions people. Therefore, the hip on here is just a drop in the ocean when we compare it to the entire population of Nigeria. Less than 0.5%. It makes sense now why every single Nigerian I have met never heard of Nairaland.

When I first discovered this site, I the very first Nigerian I asked if he knew of nairaland was a banker at TD . He was in Canada on student visa. He never heard of nairaland but wrote the link on a paper and told me he would check the site later. This was back in 2010. From that point each time I would meet a Nigerian I would ask if they know Nairaland.

I live almost a year in Canada as an immigrant with my family. Now I feel comfortable here but at first it was difficult to find cheap accommodation and good work. We had been living in a shelter for several days, but there were just awful conditions and unfriendly neighbors, so we had to take off the hotel. My friend advised me to use his discount coupons to save my money. I am very grateful to him for this and I give these coupons to you so that you did not spend a lot of money on housing. https://www.firstordercode.com/shop/ca.hotels.com Canada is a great country and I really like to live here. wink

Where in Canada are you located?
I didn't know new immigrants qualify for government assistance to live in a shelter. They will make you pay pay every single kobo back to the government if they ever find out you was staying in a shelter as new immigrants.
I believe you have to be in Canada for a certain time to qualify for public assistance or welfare.
