A compound is a combination of two or more elements with a fixed composition. Sodium chloride, NaCl, is a compound that consists of sodium ions and chloride ions connected by ionic bonds to form a 3D structure. Its composition is fixed.
While An alloy is a mixture of two or more metals. It can have varying composition
Proffbonjo(m): 5:08pm On Sep 18, 2017
This is becos sodium chloride is the starting point of other sodium compounds.

This question carries 10k
nonomirac(m): 5:08pm On Sep 18, 2017
Because its a combination of ions to produce a crystal

AstonM:
an alloy is the combination of two or more metals ..so sodium chloride is not an alloy because it is not contained two metals
kindly confirm this my answer please

it is because they don't have metallic propeties

babyfaceafrica:
they don't conduct electricity
First correct answer.

But there is more. I'd give room for one more, which can either be from you or anyone else. So you can have either all the money or half of it.

By this answer you are guaranteed half.

Salt, for example (sodium chloride, NaCl), is considered an ionic compound, not an alloy of sodium.
This is because if the unlike atoms in a substance are attracted by strong electrical forces, the result is not an ordered solid solution with metallic properties but a true chemical compound
Op biko is my answer any correct?

Question.

Explain the reason why sodium chloride cannot be referred to as an alloy even though aƱ alloy is said to be a combination of two or more elements, one of which is a metal.
because they do not have metallic properties, hence can't be reffered as an alloy
Re: 100k For Lucky Student Nairalanders. by Nobody: 5:11pm On Sep 18, 2017
It is an ionic compound, being made up of equal numbers of positively charged sodium and negatively charged chloride ions.
Adedayo516(m): 5:11pm On Sep 18, 2017
sodium chloride dissolve in water while alloys generally do not dissolve in water.

they are not mixture of metals
Drniyi4u(m): 5:14pm On Sep 18, 2017

because sodium(metal) and chlorine(non metal) react together to form a compound and alloy is a combination of two or more metals

you didn't say if I'm right or wrong

I see. Waiting for the next right answer.
INCREDIBLEGUY: 5:14pm On Sep 18, 2017
INCREDIBLEGUY:
it can not be referred to sodium chloride because Sodium chloride, also known as salt or halite, is an ionic compound with the chemical formula NaCl, representing a 1:1 ratio of sodium and chloride ions why allow is a metal made by combining two or more metallic elements, especially to give greater strength or resistance to corrosion
op please check mine very well please
