because chlorine in sodium chloride is not a metal

omenka:1. An alloy is a Mixture of metals. 2. Mixtures are defined as "physically" combined entities 3. Compounds are "chemically' combined entities 4. Since NaCl is a compound it therefore can not be referred to as an alloy |

NaCl is a compound. Alloys are mixtures Mixtures don't have formula because they contain many substance which makes them heterogeneous |
Gloryejims(f): 5:04pm On Sep 18, 2017 |
The reason is that sodium attaches itself very strongly to other elements. Its compounds are very difficult to break apart

an alloy is a mixture or combination of two metals whereas nacl is made up of metal sodium and a non metal chlorine thus making a compound

Sodium-potassium alloy, colloquially called NaK (commonly pronounced /næk/ ), [1] is an alloy of two alkali metals sodium (Na, atomic number 11) and potassium (K, atomic number 19) and which is usually liquid at room temperature

omenka:. Alloy is combination of two or more metals...NaCl,contains a metal and non-metal. NaCl is an ionic compound.(A salt) |

Re: 100k For Lucky Student Nairalanders. by Nobody: 5:06pm On Sep 18, 2017 |
An alloy simply means the combination of two metals... sodium is a metal bt chlorine is not... so sodium chloride cannot be referred to as an alloy...
|
veilkonsultant: 5:06pm On Sep 18, 2017 |
... sodium chloride is an end product of reactions. so can't be regarded as alloy
|
INCREDIBLEGUY: 5:06pm On Sep 18, 2017 |
it can not be referred to sodium chloride because Sodium chloride, also known as salt or halite, is an ionic compound with the chemical formula NaCl, representing a 1:1 ratio of sodium and chloride ions why allow is a metal made by combining two or more metallic elements, especially to give greater strength or resistance to corrosion

NaCl is a mixture of metal and non metal while alloy is a mixture of metals

Jesuspikin8:Wrong. |
jerryflames(m): 5:06pm On Sep 18, 2017 |
Salt, for example (sodium chloride, NaCl), is considered an ionic compound, not an alloy of sodium. This is because if the unlike atoms in a substance are attracted by strong electrical forces, the result is not an ordered solid solution with metallic properties but a true chemical compound |
Boldwinner(m): 5:06pm On Sep 18, 2017 |
omenka:This is because sodium chloride cannot be broken down into it's constituent elements as in the case of an alloy. |
VinceSpence(m): 5:07pm On Sep 18, 2017 |
Sodium chloride is not alloy cause is not a metal. An alloy is metal consisting of two elements of which one of the element is a metal.
|

Because it forms an ionic compound/ salt

omenka:Heavy metals are naturally occurring elements that have a high atomic weight and a density at least 5 times greater than that of water. Sodium is a member of the alkali metals family |
ModusOperandi(f): 5:07pm On Sep 18, 2017 |
omenka:Alloys are mixtures of metals, without ionic or covalent bondng. NaCl is a mixture of metal and gas (chlorine) and is regarded as a compound *Compounds are formed by combining two more more elements that form a chemical bond between the elements in a ratio dependent on the atomic structure. Bonds are either covalaent or ionic, sodium chloride has an ionic bond, hence its a compound not an alloy |

... alloys are more like the target of reactions processes, that what I meant
|
Sholexyz(m): 5:08pm On Sep 18, 2017 |
omenka:because sodium chloride, common table salt, could be described as a metallic compound in the sense that one of the parent elements in sodium chloride is a metal, while elemental chlorine is a non metal. However sodium chloride itself is not a metal. It is a poor conductor of electricity, |

I'm really waiting for who would eventually win this chemistry question.. Would be interesting
