Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA (2779989 Views)

Reprobate: Can you correct B above ( 1 x12 V ) cannot be connected to 24 V inverter . In general any Lead Acid battery ( wet , AGM, GEl) likes to be used on C10 or C5 rate based on design . Any higher current drawn above C10 will result in reducing teh overall AH ( energy delivery) of the battery . So a 220 Ah battery will be able to deliver 220 AH ( 220*12V-2640 watt) if the load is 22 Amps ( 12 V x 22 amps- 264 Watts) for 10 Hours Same battery at Higher load will likely drop to 170 AH Also Keep in Mind the battery should be used only upto 50 % DOD in Home solar applications which means a 12 V 220Ah battery system should be considered In design to a load of 264 watts only for 5 hours 4 Likes |

kiekie1: So technically it better to discharge 50% than 30% of battery capacity ![]() @30% I will only get 165,000AH from my battery.. whereas @50% I will get 175,000AH. Abeg what's the logic here? |
Oshomo12(m): 7:32pm On Jun 20, 2017 |
Dam5reey:No! Technically it's better @30% you get longer battery life than @50% 1 Like |

Oshomo12: What's is the logic..?I get more power discharging to 50% based on life cycle.. that my point.. |
Ferdiwar: 8:39pm On Jun 20, 2017 |
Dam5reey: The logic is that @ 30% you can charge and discharge it 2750 times while @ 50% you can charge and discharge it 1750 times. That means that while discharging it to 30% the battery lasts longer than when you discharge it to 50%. 1 Like |

Ferdiwar: Thank you. More power less life span, less power taken out of the batteries more life span. Hope this is logical? |

What he meant is overall at 50%, you draw out more returns on investment that at 30%. He is a very good economist however sometimes availability outweighs cost! For instance d 30% discharge plan gives more longevity before replenishment as opposed to more 'harvest' from d system.

DMerciful: All this solar wahala tire me, can't we just get a perfect battery? Batteries are the most expensive part of the system. I need a battery @90% DoD and 15000 cycles! ![]() 3 Likes |

pranil: Once again my reply to your post was eaten up my the stone age clobber Nairaland calls antispam. I got a ban for my effort. Nairaland has to be the only platform where contributors content producers get banned for posting educational stuff that drives more traffic to the site. It is a classic case of the disease that creeps in when you become a monopoly.... anyway I digress. My response has been reposted to my blog below in my signature |

Oshomo12: That's why RE is no joke. Takes lots of planning and serious consideration. Money doesn't always come easy but time is about the most expensive currency we humans deal in. You have to do a delicate balancing act between your needs and desires. My own recommendation: if you want more time out of your batteries, size them appropriately or get the right chemistry type. |

Oshomo12:Simpliphi has a dod of 80% with over 10000 cycles but cost about $3800 per 64amps at 48volts |

Hello everyone, i need some quick advice here please. I have a 800 VA sukam inverter, a 250 W , and a 30 amps PWM controller. My current 150 AH battery is long due for replacement, so i am thinking of replacing it with a new 200 AH. My concern is that the may take too long to charge the battery full, even though i don't intend to discharge it to more than 50%. Am i just better off with a smaller battery, say a 150 AH or 100 AH? I also need recommendations on reliable battery brands to buy (preferably from experience), i kinda believe the so called 'telecom' batteries are solid, even if they are more expensive. |

Reprobate: Explained nicely here - http://bobby.com.ng/2017/06/21/battery-discharging-less-can-be-more/ In general 24 V system will be more efficient and run longer |

For folks that love monitoring. Here is a brief video with the Combox. You can do everything you can do with the S and more from your android tablet or laptop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXzUowIi91Y 1 Like |

tivta: I beg no talk this battery! Na to sell my landed properties before I can afford 200ah. ![]() |

Saipro:I totally agree with you. |
Dam5reey(m): 9:33pm On Jun 21, 2017 |
BasedOnB: From experience array only produce 3 to 4 times it's capacity.. So your 250W will provide about 800Wh.. thats about 60AH of charge.. if you upgrade by 50AH how do you charge it? If your 150AH is serving well with the .. then stick with it.. since 30A PWM cannot accept a perfect additional .. |
BasedOnB: 10:35pm On Jun 21, 2017 |
mcTrinity: Thanks. Load is about 120 W max, most times it's just about 80 W. |
BasedOnB: 10:41pm On Jun 21, 2017 |
Dam5reey: The 150 AH battery is virtually dead, i have to change it. So the 30 amps controller can't charge a 200 AH battery? Thanks for the input. |
Dam5reey(m): 11:10pm On Jun 21, 2017 |
BasedOnB: It can, simply add another .. I mean you should buy another 150AH battery if your charges it effectively.. |
BasedOnB: 11:19pm On Jun 21, 2017 |
Dam5reey: I get your point now, can't buy an extra at the moment. Thanks once again. |
