Six Things That Makes Nigeria Universities Better Than Polytechnics by Nobody: 10:58pm On Jul 15, 2016
Dis are the factors that makes Universities rated than Polytechnics;

1. CURRICULUM: University education in Nigeria, like in other developing countries, is to produce graduates grounded in generic skill and, quality education for the nation's economic development. University curriculum therefore, reflect research about what works, as opposed to what is popular today or tomorrow. This
implies that the curriculum content enable students to attain the
society's expectations, and perhaps most importantly, their needs.

2. STRUCTURES: Most Nigerian Universities have outstanding structures and academic environment more than that of Polytechnic. Most of Polytechnics structures are not up to standard, even most of the buildings in some polytechnics are of old structures.

3. COURSES: Universities run more courses than Polytechnics. Most top professional courses are studied at university level e.g Medicine, Law, Architecture, etc. Though we have Legal studies in replacement of law, SLT in replacement of medicine in Polytechnics, and Architect. But are not well recognise.

4. MODE OF DRESSING: Corporate dressing can be seen in most Nigerian Universities, especially the so called private Universities. Also most of courses run by university has there code of dressing e.g Medicine, Engineering, and Law.

5. ACADEMIC PERFORMERS: Most outstanding students can be seen at Universities, compared to Polytechnics. Most of the Universities are more strict. You hardly bribe lecturers cause many are Professors so, is what u write that you get in most cases. Unlike polytechnics where you easy bribe lecturers to have distinction or upper credit.

6. ACADEMIC STAFFS: Least you can see in Universities as a lecturer is a Doctor (Ph .D). A masters holding can only be of an assistant. Most Seniors lecturers are Professors. While the highest you can get in a polytechnics is a Doctor ( Rector), others are MSc, B. sc or HND holder

Kai! This guy is about to start another e-war. Why do we have to go through this debate again, huh?
Wait till tosyn2much comes to tear you to shreds and also lecture you on how he's a product of a Polytechnic and by right, better than you.

Sentiments apart, we all know Universities are by far better than Polytechnics, no doubt. And most Polytechnic students (if not all) sought for ission into the University but had to make do with the Polytechnic when their issions were denied.
BUT this DOES NOT in any way imply or indicate that all University graduates are better than Polytechnic graduates - that University is better than Polytechnic doesn't mean University graduates are necessarily better than their Polytechnic counterparts.
It is all about the individual and not the institution of learning. It is solely not about the school but rather about the schooled.

All this University vs Polytechnic argument is a waste of time.

You guys still haven't realised that attending a University or Polytechnic doesn't guarantee you a job after graduation in this present Nigeria.

I'll advice you to spend your time thinking and planning about what to do with whatever qualification you have instead of engaging in pointless arguments.

Good morning!

Either op is cracking a joke that ain't funny or op is a university student. mod, pls dump these thread in the deepest part of the recycled bin. What is the purpose of going to a university full of half bake lecturers that lay more emphasis on searching for jobs after graduating instead creating one for yourself. None is better than each other the most important thing is the ability of the graduants to think out of the box and solve real life problems.

enough of all these trashy threads promoting prejudice against polytechnics! the way these threads rate Nigerian universities, one would have thought they were some of the world's best yet on the current world ratings not a single Nigerian university made the first 1000! Come to think of it, I daresay, only a few universities in Nigeria are worth being recognized as universities; a good number of state-run universities are mere upgraded secondary schools with inadequate staff, equipment and physical infrastructure. as for the op claiming most university lecturers are PhD holders because MSc holders are mere assistants.....looooolz grin grin I really hope he isn't referring to our universities because that is a big lie!! yes, the PhDs are encouraged but a good number of lecturers still hold MSc degrees and, indeed, one can rise to become a lecturer 1 maximum if he has the requisite number of publications. the op ought to realize that it is only in Nigeria there is the ridiculous assumption that universities are superior to polytechnics. hence, the reason even government pays little attention to the polytechnics. it is a dangerous assumption and it only aids in killing the polytechnics. there are countless polytechnics in other parts of the world rated highly. here, the polytechnics aren't even allowed to award degrees. ridiculous!!!

This why nigerian youths are their own enemy.

And each produce good and qualified student to solve the problem of the nation.

I guess you are seeking for attention. you have been noticed, ngwa puo na uzo.

I wonder why nairaland mods will be pushing such trash to frontpage, what were they thinking. Aiding discrimination.

I went to the best of both: ND in The Federal Poly, Ilaro and B.Sc in University of Ibadan....so I can authoritatively say UNIVERSITY EDUCATION IS A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN POLYTECHNIC EDUCATION. The idea of polytechnic students being more practical oriented was debunked when I got to UI. Not a basis for quarrels though....my ND cert is what paved the way to me working in a multi national.

MODIFIED: at the end of the day, what matters is what you have upstairs....
