Use it to challenge your lecturer and see what comes out at the end of the semester.

He started failing it from the point where he struck out 10 and -10,the 10 on top is supposed to equate to -1 when divided by -1 which when put into the equation, will give you 19/10. And secondly, you cant stricke out numbers that way. They are in brackets in their own different equations i.e an equation in an equation. So my point is, the person who provided this so called 'proof' is a dullard May vice elementals from the seventh heavens strike the next person that quotes me with madness 134 Likes 10 Shares |

Lol, everything was okay till he/she decided to expand 10^2 - 10^2 *Modified Nothing wrong with the expansion, it's what happens with the resulting brackets that is the bone of contention. 45 Likes 1 Share |

Jumbledwords:10^2 - 10^2 = (10 + 10)(10-10) is very correct. In mathematics, it is called 'Difference of two squares' If you doubt, try simplifying the right hand side of the equation 120 Likes 7 Shares |

Creative but wrong. I could arrive @ 1 by doing the following... (10+10)(10-10) / (10+10)(10-10) =1 23 Likes 3 Shares |

Referring to the numerator, -10 x 10 is not equal to -10^2 as written by the Mathematician. Instead, -10 x 10 = -100 while -10^2 = +100. The numerator says 100-100 not 100+100. Therefore the so called Mathematician is so wrong that he needs to get this off before small children see it and get confused

godofOrijin:True! 10(1+1)/10(1+1) =2/2 = 1 I guess, we can prove and disprove mathematics theories as much as we want which shows that maths is not finite. I ire the guy 's reasoning ability but he flawed when he didn't apply the same mode of expansion to the numerator and the denominator. 1 is a better answer 16 Likes 2 Shares |

Tinkybabe: Mathematics is one abstract discipline. I could just prove 1 + 1 != 2 by following the so called mathematical principles. @ the guy arguing that anything divided by zero is infinite so 0/0 should be infinite due to the zero @ the denominator, do you realize the numerator is also 0? Nd going by what you claim, we could also draw a straight conclusion by saying the answer is zero. We now have two conflicting results... Zero, infinite. The result ''1'' is realistic because zero and infinite are two opposing forces of mathematical principle which crosses out to one. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Jumbledwords: 10:39pm On May 09, 2015 |
Lol, the funny thing is, if I interchange how the denominator was expressed with the numerator, I'll get 1/2 which technically will be correct as well (based on the proof)

Tinkybabe: I'm guessing this was what you did: (10+10)(10-10) / (10+10)(10-10)= [10(1+1)] [10(1-1)]/ [10(1+1)] [10(1-1)] There's still a "bracket function" yet to be executed which will reduce your final result to zero when that happens 6 Likes |

wonda26: But his fractionalization was wrong: 100-100 is never 10^2 - 10^2 because -100 is NOT equal to -10^2. -10^2 = +100. 42 Likes 1 Share |

wonda26: What he did was: (100-100)=10^2 - 10^2 which is wrong. -100 does not have a square root but u can have square of -100 which is equal to +10000. ONLY POSITIVE NUMBERS HAVE SQUARE ROOTS BUT ALL NUMBERS HAVE SQUARES. He failed it when he factorized -100 as 10^2: It is wrong. 28 Likes 2 Shares |
