Earlier this year, I started the process of ing my tinted glass permit the legal way — and to be honest, the process was not as straightforward as I expected. I had to do plenty of trial and error before finally figuring it out. So, I decided to share my full step-by-step experience here to help others who might be confused or just starting.

Here’s what worked for me:

Step 1 – Start with the Police website:
Go to the official Nigeria Police digital portal. That’s where you begin your tinted permit registration. Fill in your bio-data and vehicle details carefully. Once submitted, you’ll get an application reference number.

Step 2 – Activate your dashboard:
After application, you’ll receive an email or SMS to set up your dashboard on the system. That’s where you’ll all your required documents and monitor progress.

Step 3 – Prepare your documents:
These are the documents I ed:
– Proof of vehicle ownership (like your vehicle license)
– Valid driver’s license
– port photo
– National Identification Number (NIN)
– A valid reason for the tinted glass (this part matters)

If you select “medical reason” like I did, you’ll need a medical report. I had mine typed up by a private clinic, stamped and signed. Just make sure it looks legit and mentions light sensitivity or eye-related conditions.

Step 4 – Invoice & Payment:
After document , the system generates an invoice. You must pay the fee through REMITA. Once paid, proof of payment back to the portal.

Step 5 – Capture appointment:
Once your documents are reviewed, they’ll schedule you for physical biometric capture at the nearest police command. They’ll confirm your fingerprints, photo, and your reason for tinting.

Step 6 – Wait for final approval:
After capture, your application goes through final vetting. If everything checks out, you’ll get a able permit with a QR code for verification during police checks.

BONUS Tip:
If your application is still “pending,” don’t panic. That’s normal. It means they’re reviewing your docs. But if it stays that way too long, you might need to follow up at the police station or call .

Please note:
Company-ed vehicles can also apply, but you’ll need to CAC documents instead of personal ID.

I hope this helps someone trying to go through the process. It’s way better to handle it the right way than deal with random police stops and heavy fines.

If you’ve already started your application or got stuck somewhere, feel free to ask questions. I also put together a full info-PDF guide for those who want everything detailed in one place — based on real, tested steps.

Tips 1*
If your application is showing 'pending' after successful payment and document , that usually means it's under review. The next step is to wait for processing—sometimes they send a text or update the status when it's time for capturing or final approval. Just keep checking the portal every few days. Let me know if it stays like that too long—we can look into possible follow-up options.

What sort of medical reason will require one to have a tinted glass?

Almost all SUV back glass are tinted from the factory. I hope that doesn't require permit also.

Immigration website: It doesn't work. Whoever implemented it deserves 24 strokes of cane.
. Do you hold Nigerian port? Y/N
/*No matter the answer, it asks the country and Nigeria is not listed...and you can't proceed cool */
ECMR registration: Goodluck with that if you change your last phone number.
Tinted permit: I will be damned if I do it. Let heavens fall.

Nigerians are not ing it because of the process and its too complicated. Nigerian don’t like stress history have shown and most time do things last minute when the whole thing is about to expire. Like bvn, nin, voters card etc. the police need to learn. Nigeria is a country where most big men will rather pay for someone to do something for them.

The police should come up with something very easy and convenient before Nigerians will take this thing serious.

They don’t need to wait for days and do data capture at their command everything can do done online. Even mobile monie bank are doing everything online including capturing on their apps. The reason mobile monie is now popular is because every one can easily. There are AI and software that recognize face, finger prints even voice.

Opay, moniepoit, kuda and all others are doing 100% registration and data capture online. What is there again the police cannot implement online? You submitted nin then you can capture face which can be manually check for verification. All these processes to attract additional money, stress and corruption.

Why will tinted registration takes days and need to go to command to do capturing when they can do it online and make payments to get a print out. Jamb is doing it on their portal.

Right now Nigerians prefer giving out 1k to every police checkpoint than to go through those processes.

I tried to mine 2 weeks ago, but got stuck with two things.

1. I discovered there was a mistake while filling my information, I have two addresses that I usually use for documentation, in my vehicle papers I use the "Address A" but while filling the tinted permit, I mistakenly used the "Address B"...I have been trying to edit and correct it but I discovered there's no option for that.

2. They asked for police station or command where I want my paper processed, I only saw two options which are very far away from where I stay. I'm Not comfortable with that...they should make it easier for us.

Finally, their site keep having downtime

You aren't correct about company ed vehicles. It doesnt ask for your CAC documents which would have been the more logical way to do it but we don't use logic, we use the path of most pain.

It requires you to input your company Tax Identification Number which then populates the form with the details of the company and if you no longer use the number or email on file with FIRS then you will not receive the OTP to continue and you have to visit FIRS to update your details!

At a point, I was just going to remove the tints than go through this nonsense with the police but I ed the hot abuja sun and continued the process

How much did you pay? That's also very important like the information you shared.

Very good!

I need to bookmark this.

The way our NPF tormentors did not publicise this, they will soon start using people to provide for their families.

PS: The website is not showing any link for "Tinted Permit", at least none I have seen so far.

Please share the details of how to navigate the site.

Thanks.
