Does asata have any close relationship with Tupac like memorable past?

Yeah, in a way because she's was his godmother. Mama Assata was close to Afeni and they were both connected to the Black Panther movement. Even deeper, they both adopted the name "Shakur", and the later also took a Yoruba name "Olugbala" which means the savior. smiley

The activists of those days were quite fierce ooo shocked But she's in Cuba now, enjoying her asylum and the protection of the Cuban government.

Exactly, you've brilliantly summed it up. The whole premise of the argument is simple.

—There are items are considered as true luxury by EVERYONE, rich or non-rich.

—However, luxury is very relative and depends on context. What is luxury to one is basic to another.

—Taking Nigeria into context, a "15M Car" is definitely a luxury for most of the population since the citizens can't readily afford it given the poor economic situation.

—A simple search on Jiji shows a 2015 Toyota Corolla to be 14-15M plus. This is a basic car for some, but for the majority of the Nigerian population, it'll be considered a luxury.

Now worldwide, would this particular car be considered a true luxury, the answer is no, but would it be considered a luxury in Nigeria? The answer is a resounding yes.

When something stretches beyond your current financial means or feels like a non-essential indulgence, it becomes a luxury, not necessarily because of the item’s price tag, but because of your economic position at that moment. So I don't get the bragging and pigheadedness. Sheesh!

The more puzzling aspect is seeing some of the guys who clamoured for and benefitted from less than #50K give away on this thread in December 2023 and April(?), 2024 insist #15 million is something they consider cheap.

It sums up the lies for optics so far.

My Oga, while you're right that things are now very costly, DissTroy is also right that most Nigerians do not earn up to 2M monthly. And I agree with him that luxury is contextual. Anything your income cannot afford is a luxury.

Also, Abuja should never be compared to other parts of Nigeria. Prices of cars there are overinflated. Besides do you know how many years some cars spend on the stand before sales?

I appreciate that you’ve provided an unbiased perspective and directed him towards context in your post. However, it’s evident that you haven’t followed the entire discussion, leading to an incomplete understanding. Consequently, the foundation of your argument is flawed due to this lack of CONTEXT.

Allow me to summarise the core issue by painting a clearer picture:

Disstroy claimed that his state governor purchased a luxury vehicle for him worth N15 million. He did not state that he himself purchased the car for N15 million, nor did he imply that the average Nigerian purchased a luxury vehicle for N15 million.

When asked to provide the model and year of the luxury car his state governor allegedly bought for N15 million, he failed to do so. This was over a month ago.

At that time, he did not mention the average Nigerian’s income, nor did he suggest that the average Nigerian couldn’t afford to buy a luxury car worth N15 million. He also did not claim to have purchased the vehicle himself; he stated that it was his state governor from one of the country’s richest oil-producing states.

So, why are we here today? We are here because he made a ridiculous claim in his initial post that lacks substantiation, and now he is attempting to conflate issues to divert attention from himself.

Now that you have a clearer picture, do you still agree with him that the luxury car, which his stated governor allegedly gifted him, was purchased for N15 million in 2025? Yes or No?

PS: This is about Disstroy and his false claim, not about the average Nigerian, their average income, what they term luxury, or what they can afford.

That post was a response to OasisX and it was quoted by him and another person at least.

If you provide where I stated a #15 million car or anything was gifted me, I'd do the following before 7:00PM:

1. Write you an apology letter, and;
2. Deactivate to never return on this thread.

You are ready to do anything except state the model and year of the 15m luxury car. Well-done.

In today's Nigeria, can a 15 million vehicle be described as a luxury vehicle?

Yes am afraid.

Let's be real, even if I own a 2010 Mercedes-Benz S-Class worth N15mill, I can still call it a luxury/ sedan. But, let's not kid ourselves, bragging about it might just attract some bashing due to its age. Cars value and prestige diminish over time. And honestly, with ₦15 million, you won't find a brand-new brand, let alone luxury.

A very good way to approach the discourse.

An S class is a luxury Merc, but 15 years is too far.

I also believe that the S class is undervalued in Nigeria, probably because of its resale value (or maybe it has some technicality that our Kazeems cannot handle)

Because how can a GLK be commanding more than an S class?

Asata was also Pac's step aunt because her brother Late Dr. Mutulu married Afeni at some point.
