The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of seven individuals following an ambush by armed hoodlums along the Obbo-Aiyegunle/Osi Road in the Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred at about 6:30 PM on Saturday, April 19, when a Sienna bus with registration number FFA 50 XD, en route from Abuja to Offa, was intercepted by about eight gunmen who abducted all seven occupants, including the driver.

A statement released on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, revealed that police operatives responded swiftly in collaboration with local vigilantes after receiving a distress report.

"The vehicle was recovered and moved to the nearest police formation. During a coordinated search of the surrounding bush, three children aged between two and twelve years were found and safely rescued," SP Ejire-Adeyemi said.

According to the police, one of the rescued children was able to provide vital information about her guardian, leading to the successful reunion of the rescued minors with their relatives.

While the fate of the remaining victims remains uncertain, the police assured the public that no stone is being left unturned in the ongoing rescue efforts.

"The Kwara State Command has intensified efforts through discreet investigation, intelligence gathering, and sustained bush combing to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe rescue of the remaining victims," said SP Ejire-Adeyemi.

The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, also expressed the Command’s resolve to ensure the safety and protection of all residents in the state.

“We are fully committed to bringing the perpetrators of this act to justice and reuniting the victims with their families. We urge of the public to provide any useful information that may assist in this operation through the established channels of the Kwara State Police Command,” Ojo stated.

How could a whole president watch his country descend to this level and not rejig the security apparatus. This is a serious dent to this istration and I wonder why Tinubu is not being decisive. What happens to the budget on security that states like Benue, Plateau, Ekiti and Kwara known for high rate of kidnappings cannot enjoy high level of security Intels and robust security formations. If you fail to protect your citizens, it means you don't have any business being the President of the country. You have let the people down and reneged on your electoral promises.

The security architecture in Kwara state should be ashamed of themselves. Kidnapping has been happening in that axis for at least five years. To apprehend these kidnappers is very easy if not that the police don't want to for reasons best known to them. Those guys are always operating around that 6 - 7 pm Saturdays. A neighbour and my dad's former boss who lost his live to those daredevils in 2022 was also kidnapped around that same time while he was returning from a wedding.

As much as it doesn’t sound right that our leaders feel so relaxed taking holidays outside Nigeria for a long period of time, I still don’t think his presence in Nigeria will make much difference.

What makes a difference is his strategy and instructions to his lieutenants and how they effectively carry out those instructions.

But it seems there’s a disconnection or no instructions at all.

Owu Isin area was under siege for more than 3 years. People were paying ransoms. By 4pm going from Ajase to Oro to Omu-Aran is a deadly venture. The most annoying thing is every village have police posts. People don't understand the problem and still hailing their oppressors.
