17years on nairaland now, Seun kindly customize some features, like night mode, delete button, unlike button, and many more...
There should also be reward in some content to encourage some nairalanders .

Thanks

Hello Guys,

I'm throwing this question to you because it's very important. Every time I ask, "how is Nairaland?" I'm told that it is fine. If I ask what are the challenges I'm told there are none.

So I need to talk to you guys directly about what you think is going on and what you want us to do. I have not had the confidence to make major changes on Nairaland. I have a little confidence now because of AI.

What are your complaints, your challenges, your issues. What are the things that can drive people away and need to be nipped?

Speak your mind, but don't be rude. Thanks.

Nairaland is fine but spam bot is still a big problem. Don't bring block button & unlike button, we don't need it here.

Hello Seun, it is good to know you are considering taking steps to make NL better. Whatever you decide to do - keep it simple.
Find my contributions below.

1. Adverts
- Automate the Ad payment and placement flow.

-Make sponsored post Ads available to everyone interested.

2. Moderation
-Women/ladies suffer unwarranted abuse and bashing. Posts unnecessarily targeting women should not be given visibility. OP may be able to make such post but should be hidden to s. When the post don't get any engagement, the concerned individuals will learn to channel their energy better.

-s should be able to ban/block s they don't want to read from. Posts from such individuals should be invisible to s who placed the ban.

-Comments with racial and ethnic undertones should be made invisible to s.

-Individuals who publish a post should have some control, moderating right to remove comments that derail or violate the post.

-Mods should have a standard of deciding which topics make the front page.

-Some of us are tired of the endless Igbo and Yoruba rivalry comments, shading of women, abusive and gutter exchanges generally.

3. Content Creation
-There should be a way to encourage the creatives on NL. How can influencers thrive on NL? What qualifies an individual to be an Influencer on NL?

-Individuals with certain no of following and viewership should be considered for monetisation.

4. Verification Barge
There should be a process to s.

5. Others
-Ability for Instant Messaging

-Checkmate indiscriminate opening. emails before opening.

-New s should not be able to make posts immediately. Consider Karma system and points.

-Ability to tag a in a post/comment.

-Youtube, Facebook and Instagram introduced shorts. NL should accommodate short videos

-First to comment is still a thing on NL. You may consider introducing a point system to recognise s who are first to comment on a post.

-Enable features that allow for a marketplace. Selling by verified s only.

Well done Seun and team. As you know, there is always room for improvement. Keep showing up and make every moment count.

Hailings from all of us @Q & A App.

Namaste,

I would ordinarily not have commented on this because your MODS have been very bias and have operated this site on emotions rather than being professional, but because you have asked nicely let me say a few:

1. Encourage more original contents from this forum rather than relying on the contents of other sites. (Let original contents make FP, they hardly do)

2. Allow people to make honest and critical review of whatever OPs put up for sale. Your MODs go about banning people for opinions on items for sale, especially ones with ridiculous and dubious pricing

3. Educational/ Critically Informative topics hardly make FP, your MODs believe only in sensationalism which are most times very boring because we have come across same topics on other sites

4. MODS need to understand the mood of the people hence topics that will improve lives eg Motivational personal experiences, Business growth ideas and personal experiences should always make FP

5. Topics on killing, murders, rape, general insecurity and political banters especially from politicians should not be making FP daily.
Not many of us are interested

6. Get more breaking news rather than reporting stale news as breaking after many days of trending on other sites…very key!

7. Institute a reward system for s even if na ‘tansho’ people generally gravitate towards gratification.

8. I was banned for 3months without a single reason. Many have left for this single reason, if I can’t do without you for 3months, then I don’t need you forever.

9. Manage this few, if I get a response from you then I may say more note that OGs like me on this platform have left or their s dormant because the forum have become childish and boring

10. Create a line for artists, inventors, creatives, innovators, small businesses can thrive assist them showcase rather than those boring ‘kinikan’ awards in Abuja, ‘glamor event in PH, all this unknown political jobbers and fake philanthropists making FP does this forum no favor

✌🏿

Your nairaland is a circus and a play ground for trolls... And no nairalander has ever told you that nairaland is fine, each time you ask this question, nairalanders always tell you their complaints and would give you valid points on what you should change in here... But as always, you'd ignore their complaints like you're also ignore this one.

1. Your s are useless, they never respond when being mentioned for assistance, they don't respond to the report buttons or their mails... Why do you even have s when the trolls are already the ones moderating this forum?

2. As the owner of this forum, can't you see with your own eyes that it's not fine? Isn't it your duty to check the forum every now and then?

3. How come you were able to create this forum during a time when AI was not a thing, but now you're claiming that you didn't have the powers to do any changes due to lack of AI? Did you create this forum by magic from up above?

You're just filled with baseless excuses.

1. This forum needs a block button instead of s, so that we can be able to block any trolls from threads that we don't want them participating in since your s are useless, biased, and don't know how to do their job.

2. Create an AI app that'll decide which topic is suitable for front page, not these biased trolls who always enable trolls to do as they please in here... They value the opinions of trolls more than those of decent nairalanders.

3. Allegedly there's no longer a deactivation option on this forum, why? Some of us are planning to leave this forum soon and I don't want to leave my nairaland abandoned.

3. There should also be a delete option for nairalanders who want to delete their threads or comments.

We know you're not going to bother making any changes, but hopefully you'll prove me wrong this time around.
U just want the forum dead, go and create ur own forum and stop complaining

This is 2025, Seun. Why does anyone need to accept a declaration before posting on the Islamic section??

Whereas the Christian section (even though the "Religion" board is apparently divided into Islam and others) is free for all, as anyone can post anything there without allegiance to anything.

Even a blind man can see that the quality of threads on NL has significantly dropped progressively over the past 10 years due to certain archaic, myopic, discriminatory and bigotic decisions. But it really isn't rocket science.

If you are ready, you will start change from the Religion section as your attention has been repeatedly drawn to this over the years but you chose to ignore. Since the Muslims are apparently first-class of this forum.

You will still make decisions as you deem fit anyway, so I don't even see the point of this thread.

So that Islamophobic people like you can be insulting Muslims and making derogatory statements about Islam.

Why must you discuss Islam when you are not a Muslim
Why should Nairaland allow you to be insulting Muslims in the guise if discussion
Why must you make derogatory statements about Islam in the guise of discussion.
First off I'm not islamophobic. I don't care about anyone's religion, I see you as who you are [ maybe influenced by your religion or environment]

Heck I'm not even religious myself.
If I want to make derogatory remarks at Muslims you think that notice will stop me or anyone who wishes ?

I just see it as unnecessary on a forum

Sincerely, this isn't the first time you'll ask questions about ideas to improve nairaland and eventually, nothing would be done.

The most recent one is being strict on cyber bullying and tribalism, at the end nothing is being done till date.

There was a time there are nairaland competitions and some prizes were being given and we used to have excellent s that push relevant, inspirational, educational topics to FrontPage, unlike nowadays.

Overall, we need good moderation on topics and ' post. And a dislike button is necessary.

Thank you.

Seun someone may insult someone and when the person insults back, the mid or bot will give lengthy ban ...
It has discouraged people from commenting and reing the platform....

This is a platform that ought to unite Nigerians but you and your mods love the bigotry that reign supreme here hence your mods keep pushing topics which generate such tribal abuses here.

You can place ban on crypto but not on tribalistic posts. Such nauseating bigotry many a time render a very interesting topic useless.

You and your mods can do better.

Your probably won't see my recommend because it will be far back in the comments.

One of the biggest issue i have with Nairaland is the ways it comments are structured. Some would just put up a comment that is misleading and you want to reply directly to it so as to prevent misinformation but your reply gets to be displayed maybe on the number 11th page where many people will not even scroll the page upto while the actual comment is on the 1st pages where everyone is seeing it.

Take the comments structure of other forums like quora or YouTube, you get to reply directly under any comment.

Secondly, we need a block issuers button.

Come on Seun, making this statement is shocking and disappointing: "I have lost touch with Nairaland and I don't really know what's going on here." I don't think Elon Musk would say that of Twitter.

The fact is that Nairaland is a cashcow that would always generate much more than it needs to maintain it. But, unfortunately, you don't seem to see it like that because of, may be, other business ideas.

My key recommendation is that you manage Nairaland closely like a going concern it is. Once, you do this, ideas for improvement like the original conceptualization of Nairaland will crystallize in your creative mind. It is your baby. Growing it should be intentional on your part rather than ONLY in reaction to critics.

Peace!
