Judith Okoli, a Nigerian nurse, has made series of headlines after leaving her nursing job in the United States and relocating permanently to Nigeria in pursuit of a more fulfilling and balanced life.

Her decision comes at a time when many Nigerians are seeking greener pastures abroad but Okoli’s decision has stunned many Nigerian and generate an intent conversations about wealth, happiness, and the true meaning of a good life.

“Everyone is asking me, ‘Why did you leave America? Are you okay? You want to suffer in Nigeria?’” she said in Pidgin English in a heartfelt video shared online. “But I hope you guys know that money is not everything — at least, to some people. At least, to me as well.”

Okoli said her decision to relocate to Nigeria was not a bad one for her but born out of her deep reflection and an increasing awareness that wealth doesn’t always equate to wellness or fulfillment.

“Someone can make N100 but be miserable — insulted at work, restless, disconnected from life. Then another person makes just N50, but they are happy, they spend quality time with their family, they sleep well, they enjoy peace of mind. For me, it’s about quality of life that I wish.”

She emphasized on how the pursuit of economic gain overseas often strips people of the things that matter most — community, connection, and contentment.

“Look at what the Western world is doing to us,” she said. “Families are scattered. One child is in , another in Canada, another in Dubai. Six siblings haven’t seen each other in three years — all in the name of seeking a better life, but forgetting about the quality of life.”

I can't agree more, a lot of Nigerians abroad are seeking to return home. If Trump will not give you peace of mind, why not carry your load and return to Daddy Tinubu.
And if anyone knows her, please give her my s or tell her to dm me, she's going to be a good ambassador for brand Nigeria. Her accomodation and job will be covered upon return. Let's encourage one another, God bless Nigeria.

There is no husband in Nigeria, Tinubu's destroyed economy has rendered many young men financially useless, so dear Miss Okoli, I hope you are ready to be the breadwinner of your marriage? No sensible, ambitious man will even take you serious after hearing about your irrational decision borne out of laziness, foolishness and stupidity.

That husband that made you leave United States of America where Nursing professionals are highly rewarded to come back to labor foolishly in Nigeria without first setting up a thriving business or investment to fall back on should things go south, you may not find one because most of them are struggling to survive Tinubu's harsh economy.

Time will teach you a hard lesson.

That small dollar you saved that is making you feel like you can survive Tinubu's damaged economy will soon finish, na today? You go soon start Lekki/VI hookup for survival, time will tell.

That propaganda APC failed government wants to use you to promote to deceive gullible Nigerians that Nigeria is now better than US, you will definitely regret it. Lazy girl forming nonsense, I know your type very well angry

Lazy girl looking for an easy way out of life, a waste to her family and community that she ought to have helped working in the US as a Nurse; her mates are opening free community healthcare centers in their hometowns after working in the US as Nurses to help their poor communities, she ran back to Nigeria because she is lazy to work while giving useless excuses angry

Bla bla bla... yeah, she knows, she reads the news, she didn't ask you. Like she said, money is not her motivation. You better save your tears for your own daughter and advise her not to her father as a wailer on Nairaland.

Yes I can see how her returning to unstable power supply, hyper-inflation, insecurity, economic downturn, massive corruption and lawlessness is going to enrich her life in Nigeria

The only thing I agree with her is that money is not everything. It is often reported that the pursuit of money abroad can reduce people to 'zombies'

I just hope her decision to return gives her peace of mind, in a country that gives few peace of mind

People who have never travelled and don’t know what plays will have more to say than those who have actually ed through the system.

I love what the lady said, go get a visa and experience that life of you choose to.

The western life will put you on your toes till you die. You will never have rest of mind. Don’t let TikTok videos and American movies deceive you. That system is a modernized and equipped slave market.

Those that say for the future of the kids don’t even know they are praying for their kids to get into debt from a young age and serve the system till they stop breathing. How many can pay the fees for a top university outrightly.

Even the education is wack. How many Nigerians live in top tier zip codes with highly rated schools. They only appreciate those quack schools in low rated zip codes based on what they have in Nigeria.

A country where medical bills can send you back to the streets homeless.

If you study the system, you will realize it’s a trap.

“The American dream is an illusion”

They soak you in debt to make you believe you are doing fine, and you will work for the system till you die.

Even in death, your corpse will still pay heavily to have a grave and still be owing the government sales tax when your family want to liquidate your property.

Hmmm I really hope she thought it well enough.

Desperation to get husband can make young ladies make irrational decisions abroad. I see that a lot even here in Canada.

If she's really a ed nurse, getting a good paying job won't be difficult for her in Nigeria
At least by Nigerian standards
There's a dearth of top level professionals in Nigeria's health sector

The grass is not always greener on the other side, and like she said everything is not about money.

The holy book said it all godliness with contentment is great gain.

Lots of people abroad are neither here nor there, they convert dollars to naira to shakara Nigerians but we don't spend dollars in Nigeria and interestingly the earned dollars is not enough for them there. They do all sorts of odd jobs to make ends meet. Not to talk of broken homes, mental health issues, loneliness, etc

My people think am well before you japa. Japa get him pros and cons. No, let anybody carry snow pictures deceive you.

No place like home. Naija go still better and very soon too.

Okay... So, basically she is LONELY.

I agree with her... After a while, many people who have made money realize there is more to life than hard currency.

Same way many leaving Nigeria don't do so for the sake of making money abroad... It's the bleakness of Nigeria's future that prompts that decision.

How about you have all those things BUT you're losing your mind? You're thinking, "At least in Nigeria I was NOT going crazy"

True. I have always been an advocate of this move. Those of us who saw this earlier can only say, glory be to God today. Nothing lasts forever. That Egypt used to be world power has long become history. America too will become history someday.

If all it takes is going to the embassy and be renewing my visa each time, I don't care. Being US citizen doesn't define you or your future. It's just a title. You could be a citizen and still be as poor as church rat. How Chinese and Indians took over some sectors in Nigeria while the citizens are running into slavery abroad remains a mystery. Last year I visited an old friend in Bronx and his togolese neighbour was so happy. He told my friend to please speed up my employment so i could settle down fast. He was such a nice man but my friend burst his bubbles. He said this man you're seeing will leave for Nigeria in 2 days' time,.that he only stopped-by to say hello. That's the most people's mentality. Once they see anyone who comes from africa, they believe he's come to stay. His neighbour later said he wished he was like me and I knew why he said so.

Before I came, Indians dominated the field or industry in which I operate today. But now, with the local content advantage, I have a reasonable share of the market.

Nigeria remains one of the best places to live. No be say dem tell me. I can confirm this myself cos I'm a witness.

those japa disciples, who do not see anything good about Nigeria - will soon come for her

I have said it times without number - as you escape Nigeria, some chinese and lebanese are doing thanksgiving that they made it to Nigeria

in 10 years time - when you visit - if you have the papers, money and time - you will discover that lebanese and chinese are better off than

you who fled Nigeria - they will be richer than you in pounds, euros and dollars, they will live more happier life and intimidate you with their

success - and use their SUV to pour portor-portor for ya body - think and look before you leap!!!!

This lady most likely has gotten her citizenship already.... So she's covered. With an American citizenship, I can even relocate to my village and venture into large scale agric .. it's just a matter of buying a ticket anytime you feel bored or heat is too much.

PS: She shouldn't have even exposed herself online... The security situation here now doesn't warrant such.
