What would you expect when a bag of cement is 10,000 and the government is only paying lip service to providing affordable housing

What happened to all the APC vuvuzela noise about reducing inflation and crashed prices if cement is still at 10k
Editorialtimes:
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Olawale Edun, has assured Nigerians that the nation’s high inflation rate will be decreased by a minimum of 15 percent by 2025.
Nigeria's inflation rate increased for the fourth consecutive month in December 2024, rising to 34.80% on an annual basis, up from 34.60% in November, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics last week.
The Minister, while addressing the Senate Committee on Finance during this year’s Budget defense on Monday in Abuja, the nation’s capital, expressed optimism that the 2025 budget estimates of N47.9 trillion, particularly concerning revenue, will be achieved with the anticipated robust economy.
He stated that reducing inflation, while a key responsibility of monetary policy advocated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is attainable.
The Central Bank of Nigeria projects a 15 percent inflation rate by the end of 2025. This goal is attainable, and we are diligently working towards it. We anticipate reaching this target.

treesun:
Nigeria’s headline inflation has dropped to 24.48 per cent year on year in January 2025.
This is a sharp decline from the 34.80 per cent headline inflation recorded in December 2024.
This is according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The Statistician-General of the Federation Adeyemi Adeniran announced this on Tuesday.
He said the Consumer Price Index (I) – which measures the rate of change in prices of goods and commodities – has declined to 24.48 per cent year on year in January.
Adeniran who was speaking during a briefing in Abuja, explained that urban inflation stood at 26.09 per cent while rural inflation came to 22.15 per cent.
He said that the general prices of goods and services in the country declined, compared to the 34.80 per cent in December, which used the old template.

It is understandable for newly built houses (though, not justified), but what about those who built their houses when cement was N500?
We're really doing ourselves in this country.
It is well.

It's not their (agents) fault. It's the fault of the Landlords patronizing them. What was agent 30-40 something years ago when we were young, there was nothing like agent then. Like play like play dem don turn agent to corporate job.

It is even worse in Abuja right now
An average salary earner can't pay for a 1 bedroom apartment in the outskirt of Abuja. Every landlord is vacating tenants to increase rent in Abuja. It is really crazy

malali: The impact of removing oil subsidy and fuel subsidy is finally reaching Lagos.
Some states in the north already look like ghost towns.
If you stand in katsina downtown, you can count the cars ing on the streets easily.
This is just the beginning. Places like Ikorodu will see a lot of new tenants.
Thats how London became developed, all those people in zone 4 use to live in central london before.
Na housing cost pursue them.
Baba go Taraba no cars on the road except for government vehicles.

In South Africa, the locals are moving out of Jorbourg, Freetown and Pretoria due to high rent.
Theirs are affordable have you seen the rent in Chicago for a studio apartment $2650 to the maths.

So if you want to maintain or renovate a house that was built in 1980 are they going to sell cement and other building materials to you at 1980 prices?
How many of these landlord do renovations? It's still the tenant that does most of the repairs?

For new buildings, one can understand.
However, for buildings that are as old as methuselah, what is the justification for such astronomical increase?
List of Nigerians that won't smell heaven;
1- Politicians
2- Policemen
3- NEPA people
4- Lagos Landlords.
You can add the rest by yourself.

When cement was N500, a bag of rice was less than N1,500 naira. If they lower rents, will rice sellers lower prices from N130,000 so they can afford to buy food cheaper?
