The Federal Government has urged retailers to reflect the reduction in food prices and shun exploiting consumers. Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, stated this on Tuesday during the 2025 Wheat Farmers Green Field Day at Dabi village in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/02/fg-urges-traders-to-reduce-food-prices/ nlfpmod 5 Likes 1 Share |

Very foolish people in power. It's the draconian policies of the istration that caused the hike in price in the first place. Meanwhile, Some resident zombies are going around saying that prices have reduced by 40%... Thieffnubu's zombies are just IRREDEEMABLE. 56 Likes 1 Share |

Suddenly the FG is begging retailers to cut down the end cost of consumables after its foolish grandstanding dishing out fake statistics and impression of what is not reality. The FG can't just be day dreaming while thinking it unfeasible economic shock measures is just going to autoregulate the cost of goods and services. The galloping inflation, free fall of the naira, constricting taxation policies among other factors are not going to make it easy for retailers and consumers 41 Likes |

An economist, Paul Alaje, says the rebased inflation by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is good for investors’ confidence but has not changed the economic realities, including high food prices that Nigerians grapple with. https://www.channelstv.com/2025/02/18/food-prices-still-high-but-rebased-inflation-good-for-investors-alaje/ |

"The Oshodi-style Economy" Rather than addressing the actual problem, they simply adjust the criteria for identifying the symptoms. For instance, if a body temperature of 30°C signals malaria, instead of treating the malaria, APC and Tinubu would raise the threshold for diagnosing malaria to 40°C. Instead of tackling unemployment, they redefine employment metrics. Instead of controlling inflation, they modify how inflation is measured. Rebasing only makes sense when the root cause of the issue has been addressed. 20 Likes |

Lol... Urging them to reduce prices without addressing what is making then hike the prices is idiotic. You can't stop a chain reaction from the middle. More farmers are being senselessly maimed and killed with their farmlands being taken over yet nothing is being done. Una go leave the main foundational issues dey chase shadows for media. 4 Likes |

Go out and arrest anyone with a profit margin of over 20% Major producers needs to own retail outlets across the country, and enter into a franchise/partnership with major commercial retail outlets for ease of distribution. These will help to reduce man made inflation, we know already that Nigerians are exploitative and terrible wicked to themselves as they've learned from the government, but the government can still do more to reduce the hyperinflation that majority of Nigerians are struggling with. 2 Likes |

The traders alone are eligible thieves, the ones on my street are elephant thieves. Imagine selling a cube of Maggi for 60naira and a Congo of rice for 3200,when I can find it 2500 a Congo.every trader and retailer are huge thieves

Should the traders sell at a loss or at a profit margin that barely sustains them? Does the government consider what the traders go through to purchase the goods or the cost of transportation of these goods? Why can't they urge customs to reduce import duties on goods especially consumables. Why not urge to cut down on the exorbitant taxes these companies have to pay? Why should the people at the very end of the supply chain have to be the ones to determine the costs of good? Makes absolutely no sense!

This the most stupid demand or statement I would ever hear from FG. Are the traders getting the goods for free? So they will by for N100 and sell N95. God go punish destroyers of Nigeria economy. |

Racoon: Reduce food prices but you are increasing the electricity tariffs and call fees . Food Prices will only reduce when prices of fuel and general cost of living drops. Yes there are exploitative prices but in a free market system, someone with conscience will first reduce and others will follow competitively 1 Like |
