Amotekun Operatives Clash With Policemen Guarding Illegal Miners In Osun, Leaving Officers Injured

Tensions escalated in Osun State on February 2, 2025, when of the Southwest Security Outfit, Amotekun, attacked and injured police officers stationed to protect illegal miners.

Sources informed SaharaReporters that the police officers, led by ASP Ako Abiodun, formed a task force at the illegal mining site along Ibadan Road, Osogbo, after reportedly accepting bribes.

The deployment order was allegedly issued by A Ige Adekunle, Commander of MOPOL 39 Osogbo.

A deployed officer who spoke to SaharaReporters said that ASP Ako Abiodun departed the scene without notifying his subordinates, leaving them exposed to the attack.

When Amotekun came, they attacked everyone on the site and the police officers too. They injured Inspectors Taofiq Adebayo, Falani Banji and others illegally deployed to the site by the commander,” a police source told SaharaReporters.

The source disclosed that since the incident, A Ige Adekunle, the Commander of MOPOL 39 Osogbo, has been making efforts to cover up the event.

Additionally, it was reported that Commander Adekunle urged Mr. Omoyele, the Chairman of Amotekun, to prevent the incident from reaching the media.

One of the sources said, “The officer who led the men on the task force is ASP Ako Abiodun, along with six other men. According to the Amotekun personnel, they said they called ASP to leave the location before they got there because they knew him.

He left for an unknown destination without informing his subordinates of the danger ahead. The Amotekun personnel attacked Inspectors Taofiq Adebayo and Falani Banji because they were the only agile ones who stood their ground while others ran away.

“The Commander A Ige Adekunle pleaded with Chairman of Amotekun Mr Omoyele who happens to be a retired police officer that everything that transpired on that day should not get to the media.”

The State Police Command Spokesman, Opalola Yemisi, said she would investigate the matter when ed by SaharaReporters.

“I will find out,” she said.

Exactly! Just like how ipob/ESN security that supposed to protect igbos turned back to kill igbos after collecting donations from igbos. They kidnap igbos and kill Igbo virgins girls to prepare charms for power or for for convenant purposes. Ipob/ESN total end and eradication is near!

You can see how this country makes you question sanity.

How can police officers be stationed to safeguard illegal miners. Make it make sense.

Does it mean security in this country is sold off to highest bidder even if you're a criminal or are Nigerians so corrupt that they (police officers) can't speak up or act against crime wherever it may be committed.

I believe there is something fundamentally wrong with the entire police institution. I have observed that no matter how responsible or upright someone may be, they tend to develop questionable character traits as soon as they the Nigerian Police Force. The most disturbing part is that when they retire, their lives often become pitiful.

You need Jesus Christ today. Repent for the kingdom of God is at Hand.

Yes you 🫵 who loves darkness instead of light. I say repent. There's no repentance in the grave.

I think many of the policemen are already Christians. They just refuse to hear the part about not taking bribes and compromising on the job. That's why some people think we should start swearing them into the job with Ogun. I don't know if that'll work though.

Ordinarily, their guns (AK-47) are better than those of the leopard guys (pump action). I guess they formed humble because they knew they were on an illegal mission.

No matter what, the south west security outfit have no right to beat up an inspector of police to the extent of injuring him.Two wrongs cannot make a right.Thank God the police officer was kind enough not to make use of his fire arms. This is also to show how corrupt the senior police officer are,you collect money and post your men on illegal duties.I have said it many times that we should go after the hen laying down the bad eggs.
