The parent company of Facebook, Thread, WhatsApp and Instagram, Meta, is set to implement another round of layoffs across its operations in Africa, Europe, and Asia starting Monday next week.

The company informed its staff of the plans in an internal memo seen by Reuters on Friday.

Notices will go out to employees losing their jobs starting at 5am local time Monday in most countries, including in the United States, according to one of the posts, authored by Meta’s Head of People, Janelle Gale.

However, employees in , , Italy and the Netherlands will be exempted from the cuts “due to local regulations,” while those in more than a dozen other countries across Europe, Asia and Africa will receive their notifications between February 11 and February 18, it said.

LEADERSHIP recalls that Meta confirmed last month that it was planning to trim about 5% of its “lowest performers” and backfill at least some of the positions.

The Friday memo, in which Gale referred to the cuts as “performance terminations,” was first reported by The Information, unlike previous company-wide layoffs, Meta was planning to keep its offices open on Monday and would not issue any updates providing further details on the decisions, Gale said in her post.

A separate memo, posted by VP of Engineering for Monetization Peng Fan on Friday, asked staffers to assist with an expedited hiring process for machine learning engineers and other “business critical” engineering roles.

That process would take place between February 11 and March 13, Fan said in that post.

“Thank you for your continued in helping us achieve our accelerated hiring goals, and better align with our company’s priorities for 2025,” he stated.

More reason every young person must consider a business venture, cos a paycheck is like a womans period, you anticipate it, but comes ones a month and lasts just a few days.

Isn't it lovely? The earlier we look inwards the better. We cannot continue to rely on these guys to live our lives. Even though our government has failed us, we own our country. If only africa could unite and call the bluffs of these guys, we'd be better for it. Our attitude could even cause a change in the political dynamics by removing the likes of Tinubu and all those old and greedy politicians from our political space. The question is...are we ready?

We're so arrogant, tribalistic people. There wouldn't have been any need to japa in the first place, had our leaders done the right thing to fix Nigeria. One man who travelled to the usa in 2023 on a visitor visa is now back. I guess he was deported. I don't know him in.person but my brother who lives in same street as his, saw him and told me. He was among those shouting awa lokan early 2023 before he ran away in october 2023. Everybody will reap the consequences of their bigotry. His 2 vehicles used to dispatch sachet water were sold before he left. Now, there's nothing to fall back on.

My people, this isn't time to attack. Whether you're yoruba, ibo or hausa, it doesn't matter.. let's hands and rescue this nation cos those we're fighting over don't know our house address. The masses always suffer.

A large percentage of those who japa btw 2023 and 2024 are crying now,.especially those in UK,. Usa and Canada. No jobs, no accommodation they can't.come back because nothing to fall back on..ICE now do house to house raid in america, looking for undocumented immigrants. It shouldn't have been so bad with good leaders in place. They tell you to switch to CNG and subject your household to explosion but none of their vehicles has a CNG installed. Dangote is giving the NNPCL the race of their lives cos they can't cope with their lies they tell the public anymore. It's time for a sober reflection. Nigeria's growth is on the downward trend. I may not be so much affected but truth needs to be told. I don talk my own.

You can see the wickedness in the heart of these billionaires. Trump is doing his own and Elon Musk is also gearing up to inflict more suffering in the life of people. No wonder Tinubu has no empathy for anyone. The rich will never pray for the poor to breathe. They will rather suffocate them with their useless policy. God is watching them all.
