I am based in the UK. But what is really going on with Indians in Canada. Most of my social media timeliness especially tiktok are full of complaints about them by white Canadians, even blacks. They (Indians) have been under fire for the past few months now, even to people in Melbourne Australia. At first I thought it was the general anti immigration stereotype sweeping the west, but it seems the bulk of it is focused on them. Here in the UK, we all are facing these anti immigration talks biases but it is looking like the ones in Canada seems to target Indians more. They are really complaining about them and their activities. The Indians I am seeing here in the UK are doing great to an extent . Are the ones in Canada that bad? Or what's happening
its about the calibre of Indians. Nigerians in UAE- the ones in tech and other corporate jobs are different from those ones that were doing olosho, cultism, and other nonsense.

In the last 3 years the amount of indians from punjab has been alarming mostly through student route/ temporary foreign workers. They have been doing some weird things ( uncanadian if that word exists) that has brought attention to their community

While the guy ranting might seems loud, he's not very far from the truth. Student visa shouldn't be a problem in the first place if everyone is following the rule (especially the POF). I can tell for a fact that 90% of Nigerians never had real proof of fund. We are so unbelievably over-confident and think we can scale through anything.

While it's possible for some people to be lucky, I mean, getting job not so long after migrating and being able to sort accommodation and feeding. (I didn't include paying tuition because, that's totally almost impossible with a part time job).

While some might be lucky to pay for accommodation and feed, it's certain that majority won't. Majority will wait till five to even a year before they can land a job. This is the reality.

Hoping to fall among the very few minority that may be lucky is an outright stupidity when it comes to planning for even anything in life. It may not be you. It can't be you. In fact, it won't be you. Stop the self-deceit blinded by your religious belief. Drop that hope and plan well. The risk involved isn't about just losing a game. You will lose your millions, your time and return back home.

The worst part is, PR pathway isn't even certain for students any longer. it's getting dimmer, and the current government is looking for every means to pacify the raging citizens. He's losing for sure and he knows that.

If you're coming as an international student which is even a risky investment right now. At least, have a means to survive for a year without job after paying the full tuition. This is just the honest fact. Also, it's better to come for a master program than all these colleges. That's if anyone wants to take the chance.

I would also like to rant my opinion about the canadian government intentional blind eye to fake asylum seekers. I mean, this is the most obvious scam of the century. Everyone in the country knows that 90% of the asylum seekers are fake.

This pathway is scamming the government than anything else. To me, it would have been better if the govt venture their frustration towards them than the international students who mostly at least, have one or two to contribute to the society. At least they are educated and vibrant to some extent. It's sad to see that most international students are very educated and even have masters degree and relevant work experiences that could benefit the country.

The asylum program which the majority is fake is consuming so much from the country and adding very little significance back to the system. From monthly upkeep, to free housing for probably one or two years, and huge pressure on the healthcare system. At least, the students are bringing funds to the country and are not taking advantage of the free social benefits.

I'm also a student and I'm not being selfish. I'm just stating the pure fact, and everyone living in the country understands this.

It's very sad to say, most people who came through visiting visa and instantly claimed asylum, got their claims granted. It's just very unfortunate that such great loophole exists in the system.

People coming through study visa should think twice. The worse of it are even the docile and non-vibrant minded students. There's a shocking incident about a female student who applied to a non-pgwp college. According to her, she didn't realize because her agent didn't inform her. She attended the school for a year in complete and pure sufferness. She had to sleep outside at subway stations and even outside sometimes. This isn't a life anyone should be living just because of japa.

The most unfortunate part is, she is about applying for a second course in the same non-pgwp school again because, she couldn't complete the second semester tuition for the first program untill after the study. Apparently, she had no time and money to process the second program untill after first program when she worked for like 3 months. Because of so many reason, she had no choice than to apply to the same school again meaning, she will get no pgwp for 2 years study.

I'm sure she was one of the people who will be saying, let me enter first. The reality is, you can never beat a system, no matter how intelligent you are.

I'm also an international student who came with my spouse who's on sowp. We both had our first part time and full time job 3 and 4 months after, respectively. We could survive because we've paid our full tuition and can easily live on our both earnings which is more than enough for us. Unfortunately, they've stopped issuing spousal open work permit for college student’s spouse. This could have been a leverage to survival for married ones.

While I'm not saying it's not possible to survive as an international student, I'm only emphasising that the majority will be on the other ugly side of the flip. Just like gambling, anything that has a high chance of losing isn't worth it.

Have you lived close to an indian community? Would have sent you to Wolverhampton or Birmingham during Diwali grin

I think it started from walmart employment row. Allegedly, some Canadians indicated that bosses in walmaet recruit their kind, which is mostly made up of one india tribe (those that tie head wrapper). Then, it rolled over to indians that do not obey simple rules like driving, queuing, using the right bins, and causing noise pollution/littering everywhere during diwali.

Also, it was stated that @ednut1 grin grin saw some indians taking a shit at the beach in ON grin

Honestly not all indians are bad, but most are noisy and always act as if they are the better immigrants / assistant caucasian
Wawu, quite shocked at this

Yours is not a problem. You should have no difficult getting an open work permit. Your wife is coming as a worker so, you have nothing to be worried about. I am surprised you are not processing your permit together.

The restriction is for college students studying. Just be sure about the job offer thing. If it's LMIA, you just should be extra careful it is legit.

i lived close to a Pakistani community while i was in the UK over 18 years ago. If you mistakenly enter that area you would think you are in Pakistan . Once they target an area they would buy out all the white people there and make it a mini india or Pakistan. Can see the far right people coming for them in recent times

It seems a "little India or Pakistan" is worse than a "little Nigeria". If not, why are they not picking on on our people in the UK and other parts of the West? Could it be the smaller numbers compared to South Asians or the grave effect of being accused as racists owing to the global influence of African Americans?

we are smaller in population and blacks usually spread out. In London there is Peckham for example, if there were 20 Peckhams all over the country they would put touch light there.

Another thing is many blacks are still poor or at par with the average whites. But many of the Indians and Pakistani are rich and own real estate. They have used their community might to systematically buy houses, gas stations , hotels, supermarkets etc.Na there the wahala dey. 😂

Kudos to them. But as someone who lived in the UK for a while where there are more Nigerians than elsewhere in Europe, why haven't we replicated the same? At least, amongst Nigerians before including other black Africans and the Caribbean? Is it because we still crave for home so we invest most of our assets in Nigeria rather than buying assets in the UK?

we operate like Leopards while they operate like lions in a pride. 3 Indian families plus grandparents can stay in a house so they can pay off the mortgage faster and also buy more. Ordinary 9ja mother in law staying 6 months the opposite spouse is already frowning 😂

Indians also had high paying careers before Nigerians. It’s just very recently Nigerians started having good careers abroad. In the past most Nigerians did mostly menial jobs but Indians have been working in high paying industries like tech and healthcare. It’s why most of the veteran japarians are very pained that new japarians are having it easy compared to them.

He has finally done so after weeks of resignation rumours. Lower immigration is definitely going to be one of the eternal consequences of Trudeau (and possibly the liberal party) leaving power. It doesn't look very good for the Liberal party right now. Polls show they very likely will lose in the next elections, except the new party leader spins out some magic before October. It's crazy.
2018-2022 will forever remain the golden period for express entry for most Nigerians. 2018-2022 especially was that period where you could score 430-440 on CRS and still have some decent hope of getting ITA. Now, it has become more difficult with the need of having to learn French to have a real chance. From here, it is even more likely to get more difficult. While they may not stop express entry, chances are they are likely to make it more difficult. The pressures on job, housing and healthcare are showing that the immigration numbers need to come down significantly. Trudeau tried to play on that some months ago, but it didn't work. The conservatives are just going to jump on it to further cement public opinion in their favour.
Anybody that is still dreaming of the best option to PR right now from Nigeria should just go learn French asap and try get in before this time next year.

The narrative has a number of drivers but once you scratch the surface it becomes clear most of it stems a larger underlying prejudice against migration by people of colour and another large cohort of BAME folks who jump on the wagon without understanding the underlying drivers.

Indians are only being targeted because they sre the dominant migrant group in those countries. In Canada, similar was said about the Chinese 1-2 decades ago. If it was Nigerians or blacks, even worse would be said.

There are bad eggs as you'd find in any group who have migrated in numbers but an overwhelming majority came legally and go on to do well for themselves. That many go on to be high achievers only fuels that hate

A few pages back, I had to engage someone who had been made to believe non-white migrants were the reason why some Brits emigrate. Or is it when folks blame migrants for NHS wait lists forgetting you're much more likely to be treated by a migrant healthcare worker than have them ahead of you on a wait list. Or is it how housing crises is blamed on migrants forgetting that no government or western populace has any intention of cutting house price

Manytimes, its white folks also selling and moving out. Forming communities is a time-tested way by which humans have thrived. It's one of the basics in building wealth as a group. There are pros and cons but it happens in every society. Jews, blacks e.t.c
The funny thing is that even when westerners migrate to developing countries today, they lump themselves up in closed-off 'expat' communities. How many of them move and mix freely with the local populace as they expect of us? Same scenario with colonial periods- where possible, the natives would be killed off or foced into coccons e.g Australia. If not possible then invading folks take and live in the choice land by themselves e.g SA.

Humans are communal beings and the protection that comes by moving in groups is immense whether its to career progress, business success e.t.c. It's why I laugh whenever migrating Nigerians say they'd have nothing to with Nigerians abroad.

I'm all for integration and live and work in a community which is >95% white but at same time, I cannot discount the benefits of having more people like me around. If not for work, I may have moved to a place with more diversity.

true , underlying hidden reason is racism. Jews have their communities and practices some weird rules. I interviewed with a company once and the recruiter told me its Jewish owned and they dont work on Friday and i should be ready to work on sunday. A Jewish woman once asked me for help calling a taxi ( apparently they cant make calls on certain days) 😂.

Ukrainian refugees were freely accepted by Europe and North America. Some people have said they are ungrateful and arrogant. One even said in an interview in uk that there are too many blacks and browns where they housed them.

But because these two groups are white ,anti immigration people ignore them. It is well o

There's definitely a numbers game at play.
Having closed off communities might not be the best but its the way many groups thrive. Most of us only disperse due to work.
Worse would be said if it was Nigerians or Kenyans having such. We heard similar stories prior to Brexit of how eastern european folks were taking up districts, only speaking their language and sending money back home. Some of that narrative has died down now as there is no single group to hold

True, when push comes to shove, they also target those eastern Europeans. They hide behind wide reaching words like 'integration' to spew trash. How many of them 'integrate' when they go to Dubai or 'China' but they expect me to forget my culture and kowtow because I have come to the west. Yes, integration is important but should be done via mutual respect and not by folks giving up their identity to ppease you.

And most of these communities come to be by reason of persecution. Its the only way by which they survived. If the Jews didn't form such communities, one can only guess what'd have happened to them over centuries. Even at that, the success they had attracted lots of hate to them which led to lots being killed in the world wars.

Even in Nigeria- whether its in Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Anambra e.t.c migrating communities manytimes tend to live in particular parts. In the U.S, there are places with very little blacks. In Australia how many westerners live in or close to aboriginal communities e.t.c. Folks choosing to live with people of their kind are not doing anything new.

A common narrative is how migration is the reason for the housing crises.

Nobody choruses that U.S is overpopulated yet they have about 330 million people. Australia with a landmass just slightly to the U.S only has 26 million inhabitants. Yet, it's immigrants that are to blame for house prices
Over 60% of Australians own their home. How many of them would not vote out a government that causes house prices to crash. Locals would block every house building initiative and turn around to blame migrants. Estate developers buy up and hoard land around cities and refuse to build. They'd call in land banking. They only build at the rate at which they can sell at their set prices. Same story in Canada and the UK.

The mortgage industry forms a bedrock of the economy of these nations. Imagine the economic output if quality houses could be built at scale. Jobs would be created, house prices and rents would become more affordable, gdp would rise and people would invest in other parts of the economy rather than buying up land. But no, everybody wants to secure their retirement and inheritance on the value of their home

To be fair to Australia, most of it is deemed unhabitable or economically dead. The same applies to Canada. And yes, I agree with the narrative that citizens, especially older ones, form NIMBY movements which restricts construction of newer houses. Suddenly everyone runs with the narrative that immigrants caused rents to increase.

Good to see that another Nairalander has agreed that humans are tribal in nature.

Such issues are rarely unilateral but eventually peak because of a culmination of reasons, amongst which are; record population growth owing to immigration, restrictive planning policies which you cited(like refusal to construct high rises within certain locations), rising construction costs, interest rates, etc.

In 2023 alone, Canada had a population growth of 3.2%, 97.6% of that was due to immigration only. In that same year, Australia had a population growth of 2%(84% on of immigration alone) and in the US it was only 0.5%(70% due to immigration).

You can clearly see that Canada and Australia are taking in disproportionately too high a population, leading to high demand for real estate and rentals, and eventually the high prices. These unprecedented numbers cannot be ignored and no country can thrive in the long run bringing in such influx. I would also like to see Poillievre introduce per country cap. One country alone shouldn't be ing for more than 25% of a country's immigrant flow. We need more diversity, less numbers.

Immigration is hot and cold. When it's hot, you strike. I think it'll be cold for 5 years. Then it'll be back to the 2018 days. I've advised anyone with a PR who's eligible to apply for citizenship, should do so ASAP . They'll be anti immigration sentiments and narratives for the next few years, with this inevitably new government.

Hehe. I don't agree the uninhabitable excuse is a fair let-off for Australia. Yes, large swathes of Canada are not suitable for habitation, same also Australia. Taking away these uninhabitable parts, Australia is still sparsely populated. The Brits were not worried about the amount of habitable land when they came over and the Australians media didn't have so many issues when it was Brits coming in. Most Brits I see have relatives resident in Australia or Canada- its normal for them and the Canadian or Australian media hardly complained about this.

I agree issues are multifactorial but migration is not the major driver. Taking away the recent 22/23 spike (which by historical standards is not unheard off), the population growth rate of Canada has been on a downward trend. The country grew at a much faster pace in the past and continued to thrive. Some of that spurt gave rise to some Canadian cities we know today.

Without migration, the population of most western nations would be in decline which is something they are keen to avoid especially seeing how Japan has handled it.

The way the world works, on a level playing field, one/few countries would always dominate migration numbers be it Brits, Chinese e.t.c. First, Canada is not getting 300k Brits to apply for its EE in 2024. Same also, you wouldn't get tens of thousands of Brits applying to Canadian universities. The numbers willing to apply and with the right qualification would not come from the anglosphere - same is the story elsewhere and it's fairly new. Is Canada going to take someone from country X with an EE score of 250 over an Indian with an EE score of 500? Yes, things could be spread out a bit more but not at the expense of a fair system. Also worth nothing that over 1 in 7 humans is an Indian. Add that to their decent command of English and you'd see their numbers are not surprising.

On diversity, almost 50% of Canadians are of British heritage. No one is complaining about that lack of diversity. Also looking at numbers, any country cap is going to disproportionately affect Nigerians

I absolutely agree with you. These things come in ebbs and flows- and its important to take opportunities when they arise. Even if you look at British migration which I like discussing, over many centuries when there was net emigration of the British, the rate at which they left was variable. It had peaks and troughs. Now it has flipped to net immigration, just like with any 'market', I'd only expect a similar pattern for the coming decades.

The main differences now, arw that the interval between the peak and troughs may be closer - mainly due to the fact that the natural population in most western nations is in decline (hardly talked about) - more younger folks are needed for stability and second reason is the way capitalism works and refusal of such countries to adequately tax wealth but rather blame migration- the rich get richer. Lastly, unlike before that much needed immigration is only going to come from people of colour

With most western nations tilting right, I think they might be in the pre-Brexit phase of realisation. A less spoken about issue is the fact that the rising anti-migration sentiment would make it more difficult even for those from the anglosphere to move around like in times past.

we operate like Leopards while they operate like lions in a pride. 3 Indian families plus grandparents can stay in a house so they can pay off the mortgage faster and also buy more. Ordinary 9ja mother in law staying 6 months the opposite spouse is already frowning 😂
