Tips.
1 Leave Lagos Early (to be able to all those police on the highway especially Benin Police)

2. Have all your vehicle papers complete & upto date (have a medical report if your car is tinted thou Asaba & Benin Police might want to call it an offence but stand your ground)

3. Dress Responsibly; if possible have a lady in the car with you

4. Make sure your car is in Good condition especially the Engine and Legs.

5. Have some little denominations (#200, #100) to settle the our Police Men to avoid unnecessary delays..

All tips taken down in writing. Yes sure I will leave early and yes I have a lady in front with me and no tint on the car. Car is in good condition and will be checked again before embarking on the trip.

Be rest assured you want be starved of updates as we progress

Safe Journey

Hello everyone I am planning a journey to the east around 22/23/24 December (don't know which day is best yet)
Haven't chosen the date yet as i'm still observing security trends and first-hand experiences from people who have embarked on similar journey this month of December.

Ordinarily, I would have flown but e get as e be....

Although sometime ago (August/September) I completed similar trip to and fro without any hassle, but this time I am travelling with a sedan.

Will update as I gather more information and fix a travel date.

More details:

Vehicle- 2008 Honda civic 1.8L, 5speed A/T.
Estimated travel time- 13 hours.
Estimated travel distance- 580km.
No of occupants- 3.
Max speed- 100km/hr. I am not a speedster πŸ˜‚ na jeje I dey go my thing.
Estimated time to leave Lagos: 4am
Expect time of arrival at Owerri: 4pm considering I don't run and race other cars and any delays 5pm.

Please help me take this to frontpage for wider discussions as I need proper first hand guide. I will keep updating as I make this trip with pictures and events till I arrive.

Service your vehicle and test run it before embarking on the journey. Make sure your tires are in good condition, have a spare tire, Change your timing belt/chain, change your fan belt, ensure your breaks are very ok, wash your radiator,.. this is to prevent any avoidable breakdown on the road especially breakdown on bad spots.

Travel on 22nd which is on a Sunday, you will have less hassle. Don't dare to travel on 23rd because Imo state have become volatile in recent times. 24th is on a Tuesday. It will likely be a busy day, with heavy traffic especially in the Asaba Head Bridge axis. It's a working day and there will be alot of road safety and VOI "idiots" on the road. So avoid 24th so as to reduce your hassle on the road.

Safe trip as you travel

I don't trust 4-cylinder vehicles for long-distance trips, particularly on Nigeria's bad roads. Unless the vehicle has a V6 engine or higher, I'm not comfortable embarking on the journey.

As a General one thing you should never succumb to is system of control. What’s the test for a General if not war? If I were you I’ll pick Monday. A day the road will be free, easy speed, less traffic, early to final destination.

Tips : once you are approaching Onitsha bridge from Asaba. Alight from the car, dip your finger into break fluid and lick it 3 times. Use black rope on your wrist and home you come.

This is a wicked person angry

You want him to travel on a Monday so he will jam ungun known men abi? sad

The good thing was that the bus did not break down and the bus had this entertaining conductor (funny guy) grin

For now Ezenwata is the king, ride with them while coming back.
They load all their buses before any other bus load at Millerton road, eziukwu.
And they have these sound AC buses, a trail will convince you.

You didn't mention how many liters of fuel your car will consume for the journey and it's equivalent in Naira. Is your car CNG converted?

Will be traveling too to Owerri but from Warri. using public transport though and it's just me alone.
Would have loved to go on the 23rd because 22nd is my town union end of year party here in Warri. However, 23rd is not feasible for reasons we all know. So I will be making it on the 24th. Just in time for my family meeting in the evening.

How's the civic? Rugged?
I'm worried about the low ground clearance. Is that a problem in the village considering the eastern terrain..I'm considering getting it next year but the price is going off the roof. Considering honda accord 06 and that your type of civic.
Safe trip by the way.

No my car is not CNG converted.

The car is 50ltrs on full tank which translates to 51,250 (NNPC) but give and take, it's gonna be a full tank which might not amount to that because surely there should be some petrol in the car before fill up. I will make a stop at Edo State to refill lost gasoline to fill up again which surely will take me home.

Do not estimate your travel time it is in hands of fate and God,just do the right things and drive carefully,,there was a year I reached head bridge by 6 pm on 23 December and it was 10pm before I stepped down on the onitsha side, thankfully such experience will be extinct by now due to the second bridge
