There is nothing wrong in the payments made to you. Everything there seem to be accurate apart from the interim dividend declared in August that was not included and that also will just be the same amount as the last the paid in 2024 (2023 Final Dividend)

If it's confusing, you can just google Transcorp PLC dividend history and you will see that all is well. That screenshot is expressive enough and every detail required is there.

It's like you expected more but unfortunately very very Transcorp has been sluggish in both capital appreciation and dividend payments over the years. It's just last year when Forte attempted a form of hostile take over that the price got elevated a little. Even at that, the quantity your Dad got is not significant enough to bring any humongous suprise as it also never declared any bonus through the years.

Obasanjo era scam..

I in early 2000 when my dad bought 2 tokunboh çars with just his Guinness plc shares.

Now same Guinness has been frustrated out of the country

Guiness was not frustrated out of the country. Nigeria is their largest market outside Ireland. Guiness is still in Nigeria. The Nigerian brewed Foreign extra stout is very popular globally and s for over half of all Guinness brewed worldwide. Though now brewed in other countries, It was developed in Nigeria. Nigeria was their first brewery outside Europe.

If guiness leaves Nigeria, it means Guiness is dead.

Comment on things you know about.

He didn't buy much shares to begin with, considering the price then in 2013 was just N1.65 per share (from a quick Google search) resulting in a total of N1732.5 for his 1050 shares. That seemed like a trial purchase rather than a solid investment for the future.
If he had put that money into crypto then I'm sure the return on investment would be in millions by now.

Some were expecting the returns to be millions...

That one resemble investment?

Please how exactly is this loss of value due to lower productivity and higher looting, linked to Obasanjo era scam?

Who was president in early 2000

Perhaps you should what Tinubu’s finance minister said below.

The last time Nigeria’s economy was stable was about a decade ago – Wale Edun

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

To start with the question is not how many shares does your father own but what is the value of the shares he bought. If you father owns 1,000 shares then the total value of his shares today is N10,000, what did he pay for it? If he paid N1000 then and it is worth N10000 now then it has been a good investment. If he paid N10,000 then and it is only worth N10,000 now then so far it has been a bad investment.

My guess is if you forget about shares you own because the share certificates were lost, he probably didn’t pay much for them in the 1st place.

Secondly transcorp was a govt creation and was always going to be bogged down in govt machinations, politics and policies. it was never a good investment idea then, though now that may be change given the revamp in the power sector and the entry of elemelu.

Investing in shares for dividend sake is a lazy way to invest in my view except you have a controlling interest in the company.

The real deal is capital appreciation which could give significant profit or massive loss

Let's assume in 2009, someone purchased 2,000,000 shares at the rate of N2. This will be a total of N4M invested.

In 2024 which is 15 years later, the shares is currently at N11.
2,000,000 share = N22M + those petty dividends they paid.

Looks like a good investment.

Let's look at what who held dollar would have made just by putting N4M into dollars in 2009 when dollar was $150.

4,000,00 ÷ 150 = $26,666

In 2024, $1 = 1650

$26,666 x 1650 = N43, 998,900 (that's roughly twice the amount from shares in that company)

What about who gambled on BTC?

In 2009 bitcoin was $0.10 cheesy

Just $1,000 would have given you 10,000BTC

In 2024, 10,000BTC = $672,344,400. grin grin grin

Only if we can see the future

What if your was hacked? Or lost your ?

Then wish bitcoin is the future now?

You guys are lucky as the share value already dropped as at that time - your dad bought cheap.
I bought mine before then and it turned out to be the ultimate Scam - the moment Baba Iyabo moved his money, it crumbled. Transcorp then was promising because of Obasanjo - it would've performed if he got third term. Stock pros in-house, correct me if I'm wrong oo.
I think I bought for 20naira per share back then.

The man did not buy at N1.65.
If the son could be talking about share certificate, it shows the man bought through the public offer. The public offer price was N7.00 if I am not mistaken.

You talked about crypo, I doubt if crypo was existing then.

You are very correct about the purchase being a trial and error thing rather than an investment for the future.

You don't put token in shares or any investment for that matter and expect it to end your misery.

Before u buy any share or stocks from any organisation in Nigeria one, check out the live styles of the CEO's and other top management teams.

Check out they lavish money on...then come back and tell hourself the hard truth.
