A statement by H.E Atiku Abubakar, Vice President of Nigeria (1999-2007) and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (2023) on the genocidal threat to the Igbos to vacate Lagos and the other Southwest states on a specified date.

The recent call for a protest under the hashtag #IgboMustGo, demanding the forced relocation of Igbo people from Lagos and other Southwest states, is deeply troubling and fundamentally opposed to the principles of unity and coexistence that define our nation. Such rhetoric is not only divisive but also endangers our peace and security, as our Constitution guarantees every Nigerian the right to live and work freely anywhere in the country.

History has shown us the consequences of allowing hatred and bigotry to fester, as seen in Rwanda. What began with inflammatory rhetoric led to devastating outcomes. We must learn from these lessons and act decisively.

I call on the Nigerian government and relevant authorities to take immediate and strong action against those inciting such hatred and division. It is imperative to investigate, arrest, and prosecute individuals promoting ethnic discrimination and violence. The rule of law must prevail, and those found guilty of incitement should face the full extent of legal consequences.

Nigeria's strength lies in its diversity, and we must resist any efforts to sow discord among our people. Lagos and the Southwest have long been melting pots of cultures where individuals from various backgrounds contribute to our collective growth and development. The Igbo community, along with all other ethnic groups, is an integral part of this vibrant mosaic.

I urge all Nigerians to stand united against this divisive rhetoric and to champion unity, tolerance, and understanding. Our future depends on our ability to live and work together harmoniously. The government and security agencies must act swiftly to protect this fundamental principle and ensure that every Nigerian can live free from fear of discrimination or persecution.

It is alarming that, five days after this threat emerged, there has been a troubling silence. Immediate action to arrest, investigate, and prosecute those behind this heinous agenda is crucial. This will serve as a deterrent to others who might consider pursuing similar paths that threaten our national security.

The height of cowardice,You don’t want one Nigeria,you still don’t want b*afra !!

Meanwhile their plan A failed to label SE as the protest sponsor, they want to activate plan B,to blame igbos for the destruction that occurred in the north by the NORTHERNERS.

this too will fail until you decide to hold the people that brought this untold hardship upon us all which is the Yorubas!!

Let them drag each other,I want to check something

HE Atiku, if you are indeed a real statesman, then you wouldn't be so petty to make this statement.

Please who are the people threatening the Igbo's in South West? Please mention their names?

Why do you want to score cheap political points because of a protest?

So one person operating one Twitter made a post and you suddenly generalized it?

I personally have reported the same on Twitter. So who are the Yoruba's in of the nonsense the guy wrote.

This is too cheap and petty from Atiku Abubakar honestly

Below is the thread I created about this same issue oo

What happened in Rwanda can no longer happen in Nigeria now.
This is actually a back and forth between lgb0s and Yorubàs since the gubernatorial election, before condemning one, condemn the other act, they all kept quiet when this whole issue started because they wanted a political office, now they want the popularity among people and they are on this.

Don’t mind the political prostitute!

He feels making such divisive statement will make him president, forgetting that, Portable has more chances of becoming the president than he does.

Then the south west should as a matter of fact leave Niger Delta at once

Bloody bigots.

They are joking with fire
.

The day they will do their nonsense and the Niger Delta people and Igbo people agree politically , that will be the end of this unity everyone is seeing..

The problem of south remains Yoruba and Igbo trouble

The Niger Delta people can work with both Igbo and Yoruba and even the north but these two have refused to work together

Obi's dreams of relevance are clearly fading away. Anambra people have shown him that their loyalty lies with Soludo, not a man who can’t even rally his own state.

It’s a sad day when the supposed leader of a movement can't even inspire his own people to protest. Instead of leading, he's just a shadow, watching as Soludo takes charge.

The man keeps parading himself as a messiah, yet the reality is that he's just a fading echo in a state that has moved on.

The thing is Most of the SW and North that claim one Nigeria don't know what it means actually

I have always said it.. If IPOB were smart the fastest way to get Biafra is to one Nigeria

Most people don't know how messed up the idea of one Nigeria is

Restructuring along ethnic lines like India is the solution

But because of small oil n gas they won't

Which genocide?
Let anybody try any nonsense with Igbos.

It's a challenge to anyone or tribe in this country!

Igbos no longer have time for anything that is happening in this country neither will we take any kind of hostilities lightly with anyone.
