PRESS RELEASE
NPF CLARIFIES MISCHIEVOUS CONTENT WITH IGP’S PICTURE CIRCULATING ON WHATSAPP, OTHER PLATFORMS

Warns Against Misinformation, Fake News

The Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform the general public that a message currently circulating alongside a picture of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, did not originate from the police. The message, which poses several questions and opinions about protests, does not essentially represent the ideals or views of the Nigeria Police Force. We urge everyone to disregard this message and other similar contents purpotedly from the NPF as the Force makes all communications via its official channels.

The NPF is committed to maintaining peace and order throughout the country. We do not endorse any message that could incite division, violence, or destruction. We encourage all Nigerians to engage in peaceful and constructive activities that would contribute to the progress and unity of our dear country.

Additionally, the NPF expressly warns against the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and fake news, or mischievous recycled contents which are capable of causing a breakdown of law and order as such actions are criminal and punishable under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act, 2024 and other extant laws in Nigeria.

2020 protest is about police/Sars brutality. That was why police were targeted. This August protest is about bad governance. Police should not try to shoot if the protesters are not violent.
Let Nigerians protest peacefully, it's their right.

Govt too should do something about the economic situation. It's terrible down there.

Nawa oo…Over 100 million Nigerian are not living fine, I checked the most likely thing to kill you on Nigeria, according to google, it’s the air, basically our air is so messed up that you are most likely to die of that before dying of hiv in South Africa.

No hospital, every public schools are in the late 70s development and bla bla, instead of ppl who live there to put aside crazy sentiment and face reality. Some genuinely wanna protest, large group from east are doing it because obi lost election, some are taking advantage of the situation for reason best known to them, some are even saying we no dey involve and equally they are all facing it…

This post would be richer if you also share the false message upon which a disclaimer is issued.

The police Twitter page merely shared a screenshot, this forum would have added value by showing the complete post the IGP is disclaiming.

Also, it appear the disclaimer is to the spirit of the intended action (I.e. the police do not want any protest whatsoever), and not necessarily the bullets (I.e. don’t protest in Lagos, do your protest in Anambra and Kaduna). That’s why the actual post would enrich our understanding as to what the disclaimer is really about.

Bocking the road is a crime! If the Nigerian Govt should apply relevant laws against protesters, you will label the govt despotic.
You can protest, but don't infringe on the rights of freedom of movement of others
