To whom is this news?

Isn't this what people have been saying for the past ten years?

I'm of strong opinion that if they can meter most households, and generate stable electricity, Discos will make a whole lot of money as people will always recharge and pay their bills when they're sure it will get them the services they're paying for.

When you see that your neighbour has paid and has light, you would want to pay as quickly as possible to get yours. That's just the way it is.

The parts of my state with steady light use meters and a far cry from the parts that don't use it and are on estimated billing.
they don’t prefer metering cos they know they can’t give stable power

Hnmmm.. that's true .. omor you were there .. I drove there and scolded the useless police men . But they chose to argue and abuse me ,saying why did I drive and not carry her

Lol.
Dis is funny!
Otamendi99:

Well, i prefer estimated billing to prepaid. My bill is not much. I pay like 10k. I get to use my ACs and energy consuming appliances.

Discos in Nigeria are agent of darkness working for satan

The energy thieves nko?
Love800(m): 7:21pm On May 17, 2024
How did you got it?
Watinhapen:
Prepaid meter can never be compared to estimated billing. Estimated billing is a big scam. I’m using prepaid meter and I know how little I spend because of the epileptic power supply. I haven’t spent up to 20k since last year June till now.
Love800(m): 7:23pm On May 17, 2024
I dont understand dis.
Can you come again more clearer?
Goodevening.
Neoteny:

Nonsense.

Discos too are billed by the Market Operator and bulk trader same as customers are billed by discos.

Estimated billed customers don't pay the full billed amount because they dispute it. The Discos end up losing as the unsettled invoices end up in thd receivables ledger while the market demands minimum remittances that are often higher than the total collection.

If, however, the customers are metered, the Discos settle market invoices only according to what was consumed.

Therefore, discos lose more if fewer customers pay.
Love800(m): 7:25pm On May 17, 2024
Jeez!
Never heard of this style before.
Hakeem66:
I don't think so. Many will be consuming more than the estimated bill given to them. Once there's a constant power supply, metering everyone will be to the advantage of the discos.

One woman operating a restaurant with two deep freezers has been paying her electricity bill up to date, but the NEPA officials later decided to conduct a proper investigation. They discovered that she's operating a cold room with 10 giant deep freezers inside the building and using the restaurant as a cover-up.

If you bill her 60k a month, she will gladly pay because she knows she is cheating them.

There are many others like her in different parts of the country. Some have mini factories in their residential apartments but still pay residential house electricity bill.

These are people making life difficult for those on estimated bill. They consume electricity as factories but pay as residential. The other energy consumed would then be shared to the estimated customers.

Nigerians can be dubious; we don't seem to want a working society. We always want to cheat, which is why many are suffering for the sins of a few. Energy theft is rampant in this country, and I pity those on estimated bills in areas with an epileptic power supply.

What did the telecom sector do?
eldoradoxx:
Na today? A very close confidant told me the same thing. Discos are not ready to give pre-paid meters so that they can use estimated billing. Infact estimated billing is why electricity is not improving. Federal Government should use the concept they used in the telecom sector in solving the electricity crisis. Who ever can import or locally produce and distribute the meters should do so directly to Nigerians, just as telecom service providers dont have any business in distributing telephone sets.

Is postpaid different from estimated?
Everlastingson:
Where I live presently NEPA charges EVERY compound on postpaid meter and those without meter at all an average of #35k per month for non flat buildings and #25k per flat per month for those living in flats. Still the power you no see. Criminal is understatement.
CorrectionFLuid: 7:31pm On May 17, 2024
jmoore:

So if they write 50k for estimated bill, you will pay all?

I didn't say the bill will be 5k per month. Whatever the amount written there, we paid 5k when we were still on estimated.

Anyone that pays in full, na em sabi.

The thing there is, if you're the owner of the property and you want to put prepaid, you're still going to pay back all those backlogs.

You are part of the rotteness in the system. What you are doing is stealing electricity through ACs and electric cookers etc and consuming up to 70k monthly. The balance amount is tracked through general meter installed at the transformer. Now because DISCOs are very lazy and corrupt themselves to track bying customers and energy thieves, they spread these balance amount to the rest innocent customers while thieves like you and those bying meter go about feeling smart. Most welders in Nigeria don't ever pay for energy, they just hang wire. Nigerians are not ready yet to enjoy 24/7 electricity. Energy theft must be purge out from the system entirely. This is similar to the browsing cheat experience in the telecom sector decade(s) ago.

What do you mean by meter thieves?
Mrexcell:

People that steal meters from where they are installed they are very common here in warri.
Love800(m): 8:24pm On May 17, 2024
What do you mean by do not wait on dem?
MasterTeeUSA:
Very plausible...cos my Dad's place ...within 2 yrs, Electricity estimated billing went up to over N100k. In addition, the DisCos guy was collecting cash from the tenants. Now, we have installed prepaid meters. My other tenants pay N10k per year for a common prepaid meter per year...we had to reduce it to N5k because they still have so many units after 1yr. So PrePaid Meter is the way to go. If you are with IBEDC, this is how you get PrePaid Meter.

1. Go to https://msms.ibedc.com/map/ and with your old , you can apply for MAP ID.
2. Then follow the process or go to their office
3. They will check if you have balances and move it to the new
4. You might need to bribe them to come out to do a Tech Evaluation...sadly they can be useless.
5. Once Billing and Tech Evaluation is done, pay ONLINE...don't be a fool and pay into individual's
6. Once payment is confirmed online, they will install your PrePaid Meter within 10 business days.

Do NOT wait on them. They will keep telling you they don't have prepaid meters. They told my DAD and we have installed over 20 prepaid meters after their excuses and lies.

Is postpaid different from estimated?

There's a new digital postpaid meter that NEPA gives to people now. That's what I meant when I say those on postpaid meter. Then there are those ( the majority) who still use the old black analogue meter. This second group is what I meant by those " who don't have meter". Though NEPA applies estimated billing to both as they don't read the meter . If NEPA uses the meter reading they can't practice their estimated billing fraud. Still there are some who have none of the above types of meter, no meter at all.
