When ECOWAS was established in May, 1975 by countries within the West African subregion it was with high hopes that the body will bring development to various countries in West Africa.

A lot of the ECOWAS countries expected a lot from Nigeria with its vast crude oil wealth, arable land for Agriculture, solid minerals, human resources and skilled and experience professional.

But they were disappointed with Nigeria as Nigeria could not show that good leadership.
