Emma513: let me be candid with you, i know you are the one. You will just kill yourself with over thinking because of what people are saying about sickle cell. leave your normal life. Eat, rest and sleep. play games, have fun, anything that will bring sickness to you stay far away from it. I know most of them don't like stressful job, so avoid such. Nothing will do you. only thing is don't date or marry another genotype like yours. 1 Like |

marlow1962:Are you for real? Then who is a carrier? The life expectancy of an SS with good medical care is around 50 years which is even about the same life expectancy of the general population of your beloved country Be that as it may pls OP go to a hospital and assess the services of a haemato oncology to live a healthy pain free/crisis free life. Online will not help you |

post=127002462: Yes, but very risky. I know a woman who did it for their daughter and she ed on. They said if they knew, they shouldn't have done it. Just be wise!!! At the end, God is the decider. 1 Like 1 Share |

I manage children with sickle cell disease and all of them are doing quite well on their routine meds. Like many have posited, sickle cell is not a death sentence. If you want us to discuss more on this, do let me know |

YOUR PARENTS COULD HAVE AVOIDED THIS, BUT RATHER THEY WERE BLINDED BY MUMU LOVE, ANY WAYS JUST SEEK FOR A PROPER MEDICAL ADVICE FROM AN EXPERT OR BETTER STILL VISIT THE NATIONAL CENTRE FOR SICKLE CELL ANEAMIA PATIENCE AT IDI-ARABA ISHAGA LAGOS, JUST OPPOSIT LUTH {LAGOS UNIVERSITY TECHING HOSPITAL). SICKLE CELL PATIENCE CAN LIVE A NORMAL LIFE, IF THEY DO WHAT THEIR DOCTOR'S OR HEALTH CARE GIVERS ADVISE THEM TO DO. |

Dear OP, Having sickle cell disorder (SCD) is one hell on its own. This minute, you are sound and playful, the next minute, you are groaning in pain because of on white blood cell. There is nothing you can do whether is you or your brother that has it than to eat well, avoid stressful lifestyle, taking your meds regularly. I know a scd carrier in his 40s and he's doing fine. He is one of the strongest scd carrier I have ever seen. He lives in my neighborhood. He is lucky to have lived his childhood with his grandma who dedicated her existence in ensuring the guy lives. Nothing dey bitter for the guy mouth as he don drink agbo (herbs) sotey herbs dey fear him lol. The guy strong eehn , I mean for the scd. He can fight an AS of his stature in physical combat. If you see the kind punna the guy the f**k like this, he has his own house and cars. I a day he told us that he would have have many properties as achievement but he didn't bother to invest because he thought he will die early because of the crisis he had while growing. The guy is overly intelligent and brilliant. Kudos to him and his creator. He's a great among SCD. 1 Like |

Don't listen to anyone that said you should call them. Also people that we tell you to start going to one church or the other. There's no two ways to it but just to manage it. 1)he should always be drinking water lots of water. 2)take his medication especially folic acid and also malaria drugs maybe once a month 3)he shouldn't do anything strenuous or tasking 3) whenever he has crisis he can take diclofenac(it's for pain relief) 5 Likes |

Emma513:You can't OVERCOME it, you can only try to manage it. Firstly, you need to your brother with an Hematologist(LUTH or LASUTH). If you guys are financially loaded, then (Next Hematology, Surulere). They will place him on the routine Sickle cell maintenance drugs like the Hydroxylurea, folic acid, Reludrin, Astymin Zinc and other medications. Depending on how frequent his crisis are, he would need at least two exchange blood transfusions in a year. Then, for self-care tips, he needs to stay away from cold things(weather or drinks), try to stay under mosquito nets; always warm up. Stock up on Antimalaria drugs 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Emma513:I dey suffer sickle cell, buh if you see me,you no go gree. ![]() Fine and very smart, with 3 girlfriends. Here is the secret: Every morning before he eat,let him take 3 folic and 3 aspirin Tab together. let him sleep with mosquito net always. Let him take livercap forte,it will help reduce spleen diseases (2 capsules every week) Encourage him to drink water as much as possible Let him take penicillin tab every month end Let him avoid masturbation,or at least reduce it to two 2 three times a week. **Masturbation effects may not reflect on normal people, buh we the sticklers are at it's mercy,I am talking from experience! Let him avoid cold weather by wearing hoodies during cold seasons. Let him avoid strong exercises,(he should reduce his exercises to a maximum of 30 minutes so as not to trigger the crises. Let him take folic and vitamin c together after dinner before going to bed. Encourage him to drink a cup of water in the middle of the night when he woke up to ease himself (it will help to reduce the yellowish eyeballs) There is a medicine called *hydroxyurea* he should be taking it. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Well said. Confirm quote author=marlow1962 post=126996500]Bro go straight to the point and say you're the one with the sickle cell anemia. SS patients can live normal life just like other, get married and have kids too. Stop letting rubbish people talk online discourage you. Some SS people even live long and healthy more than the so called AA, even AS people have tendency of sickle cell anemia in them but they are not carriers of the disease. Bro take care of yourself, eat good foods and take your meds regularly and you will be fine, also avoid strenuous activities. You lack knowledge because you don't make research.[/quote] |

Officialenny1: I have a 60 year old cousin who has the condition but you will not know unless they told you. He was born before screening became mainstream, so can we blame the parents ? The op said his brother is only 16, so what will we say about the parents ? Mistake ? Carelessness? Ignorance ? Illiteracy ? 2 Likes |
