MIUI is not responsible for camera issue. It's a factory defect.

Exactly what I thought, having researched the issue. It's not about Miui or not. People on custom roms have of same issue too. And it's majorly exclusive to the ProMax (Indian) variant. Apparently Xiaomi used cheap thermal paste on the motherboards which deteriorates overtime affecting the camera in the process (the speakers and SIM modules too, in some rare cases). They even acknowledged the issue on their verified Twitter & promised free repair for s still under warranty. Too bad.
It's purely a hardware issue and has nothing to do with Miui.
What I didn't particularly like was the manner in which @sweetbuns responded to the guy. Laced with arrogance and spite, it was a withering remark at best. I didn't understand how it was supposed to help the problem
