If he can't provide receipt of purchase matching the name on the he is to receive the payment into from the escrow run, if receipt doesn't bare the store phone ;run.

Incase of lost of receipt the seller should go and make affidavit from court and get a police report on loss of purchase receipt/transfer of ownership, it would cost him less than 5k for both.
