An international port should only travel across borders in the possession of its bearer. Unless it was mailed directly from an embassy or a home office like the UK does with overseas port applications.
I know someone who was denied a visa (not US) because her NG port didn't have an entry stamp into the country that she was applying from.
It was extremely risky to have remained in Qatar and send your port to Nigeria.

They will be wondering why you are not applying from Qatar. I’m sure it’s something you can explain. Stop worrying over this thing so you don’t get no. When u get ur port you handle it

Hope your DS160 form reflected Nigeria as the point of application...

Let me share my experience at the consulate this afternoon while i took my son for his scheduled fingerprint collection. I witnessed the interviews of over 15 applicants...all of them were not new travellers. As at when i left, only 3 of them were granted, one elderly couple was put on AP; the others were refused....frequent travelers o
They queried those of them that stayed for over one month in the US on a trip (you can't lie anyway, as i94 portal will expose you). The questions ranged from: why did you stay that long? What were you doing to survive/sustain yourself in the US? How much did you spend if you stayed in a hotel? What do you do in Nigeria that allowed you to be away for that long? How were you moving around? etc...
The couple that was put on AP have a ed business in the US and mentioned that they need to travel to check their business as its Business Manager died last year (the yeye Consular Officer even empathized with them o...yet still didn't approve their application)...

For people intending to go for vacation and are preparing for an interview, please be prepared for likely questions. May we all find favour...

Put yourself in the consular officer's shoes. The average nigerian is not sincere and believes in breaking rules all in the name of hustle. Their attitude makes it difficult for even genuine visitors to scale through. Where I work to get one month vacation at a stretch can be tough except one agrees to work remotely after the third week. In most US companies you don't get one month vacation annually. How does an applicant who claims to have a job then spend 4 months in USA on vacation. Assuming you claimed you'll stay in a hotel on your DS160 the last time it means you spent 4 months in a hotel in USA (difficult to believe).

Its even worse for SME owners. How do you justify leaving your business for 4 months. The assumption is that these people were working in USA during there 4 months stay.

I was trying to be civil because I didnt know the laws regarding proxy application and cross border movement of port document without the authorized holder but all I will say now is that Nigerians are not good people. They go to any length to satisfy their individual agenda. It was also because of the attitude of some nigerians that dropbox was suspended. This is even a pilot project . At the end they'll make a decision on whether they want to continue with dropbox program or not

Hmmmmm. This is a very delicate issue that shouldn't be taken with levity. It is a known fact that no govt issued ID should cross country without the bearer whose name is on it. You dont even know the gravity of this thing. Some things are not excusable, ignorance inclusive. Most importantly my people, dont cry more than the bereaved before you are seen as an enemy of progress.

Hello house.
I’m applying for USA visit visa.
My plan date of travel is October 2022
but my port will expire Dec 2022
My interview date is June 2022
I’d like to ask hope am not applying too early because I felt it shouldn’t be a problem since I won’t still be traveling until the October if given the privilege to visit the States.
Do I have to apply for a new port or am I still good to attend my interview with my current port.

Oh It’s like I go need a new port Oo. It has to be valid for travel 6months before date of travel.

I have submitted all these documents except the MRV receipt and DS 160 (they should have those by default). I even got a letter from my gynecologist for the some purpose of EA. I wander if its because it is Lagos.
Would you advise switching to Abuja for interview and trying to request EA?

No new appointment dates have been released by the consulate. Keep checking like thrice a day or keep following this thread at intervals

the appointment letter. After validating the payment it would tell me no appointment available. I answered the questionnaire and we qualify for a Dropbox because the visa is within the 24months stated

Okay, they don't have those "by default" if not, they wouldn't ask for "ing documents" but you can switch to Abuja if you feel you will have the best shot.

To come on a public forum and openly boast that you are in another country and your port is in another country in yet a third country’s consulate for a visa.
If you don’t get detected and issued the visa I advice you don’t come here to brag “oluwa is involved” don’t encourage this kind of bad behavior. Even if you are issued the visa and your husband is subjected to a secondary search at an international border and that port is detected you guys are in even bigger problems.
I would even advice you delete the initial post. Consular officers do see, and are even of Nairaland.

For anyone that’ll be attending a follow up appointment at the consulate, please go with these general documents:
1. The white paper stating the reason for the interview (221g letter)
2. A copy of your DS160 confirmation page
3. A copy of your GTB receipt for visa fee payment
4. Your port, of course
5.Other documents that can prove your case e.g. hospital bills receipts, past correspondence with the consulate/hospitals in the US etc (this is for those both child birth issues) etc
6. If you are taking a minor (teenager) for biometric, please go with your own ID (driver’s license is sufficient)

IS this actually wrong?. the US would or should have specified that all IW persons should come in person...if thats the case

edit: other posts have now shed light on the issue......didnt know it was that grievious a crime to send ports across borders

I dont know if its a crime I just have limited knowledge of how it works. In 2016 my UK visa was issued in sheffield while I applied in Lagos. I dont know if the physical port was shipped to sheffield or it remained in Lagos
