My opinion (culled from my experience)

-MOST TREES are not straight.

It's not a lack of equipment that's the problem.
It's also not a local of skill.

It's mostly about profit maximisation and waste minimization. I'll try to explain.

Firstly, from the bush where its cut, loggers sell in logs. Then the guys that saw (lets call them "Sawers" it into 2x12 planks are next.

, most trees aren't straight.
So these guys follow the warpness of the natural wood to cut into planks because if they go straight, instead of getting maybe 6 planks, they get 3 or 4.

That's bad for biz.

If you buy a 2x12 wood from the mill, you're expected to produce at least 5 to 6 numbers of 2x2.

If you want to cut perfectly straight, you'd probably get 3 or 4 numbers of 2x2 which increases your cost.

So it is the Nigerian factor then. But that theory that the trees are not straight does not hold water. That same crooked tree will be exported to China or and it will be cut perfectly straight to size.

There is something as a people. We're largely not thorough, diligent and regards best practice as too much work. Short cut and quick money is ingrained in most of us.

He was supplying them with woods, I would hear him begging his guys to ensure they follow the exact specifications on the job order... Sometimes the woods are rejected during delivery whenever the QC spots any inconsistency. However, these companies paid price for the quality they desire.

The ability to cut a wood straight is not a phenomenon if you are not Nigerian. It is the norm and simple practice.
